I am a complete newbie when it comes to wet shaving. I used an electric for years and years and then switched to cartridge razors after finding dorco razors. Then my fiancee's grandfather discussed the benefits of using proper shave soap, shaving brush, DE razor technique and so being the OCD person that I am I decided I needed to start researching everything. Found this site and believe I have found a good place to begin my research. Thanks for all the information you provide, especially for those of us just beginning the learning process!
Glad that you landed here at TSD, @wmbjr. I'm sure you will fit right in. Join us on The Shave of the Day thread. It is fun, and you will see all kinds of products. And please Mark YOUR location on the TSD map - instructions here.
Welcome to TSD! Your fiancee's grandfather is a wise man. You have joined the right forum for information and support on wet shaving. And if you have OCD this is a definite bonus...because there are many wet-shaving related "acquisition disorders" to choose from! I have recently been diagnosed as being in the early stage of SAD (soap acquisition disorder)...but there are others!
Unfortunately the disorders are likely to occur. I basically started looking at soaps first and of course had to order samples. Lots of samples. Oh well, I am sure there are worse things to happen. Looking forward to receiving the samples from Stirling Soap (the first ones that should arrive). I still have a bunch of cartridge razors so will not end up with a razor acquisition disorder (I assume RAD) any time soon at least.
If you go to the Newbie forum...then click on the master sticky you will find a list of acronyms and abbreviations. The list of potential disorders is long...so give yourself some time. I copied this section from that sticky: AD's: Acquisition Disorders -HAD: Hone Acquisition Disorder -RAD: Razor Acquisition Disorder -SAD: Strop Acquisition Disorder -SBAD: Shaving Brush Acquisition Disorder -SCAD: Shaving Cream Acquisition Disorder -SRAD: Safety Razor Acquisition Disorder -SSAD: Shaving Soap Acquisition Disorder Apparently I got it wrong...I don't have SAD...I have SSAD...and a bit of SCAD...and a touch of SRAD...all in their early stages of development.
Welcome to The Shave Den! Definitely the best shaving forum on the planet! I live in Aiken, SC and work an hour away in Columbia, SC. Do you live or work anywhere near either? All the best, Kevin
