Oh man, I am sorry to see that. That is the worst, and for some reason it always seems to happen when they are almost ready to go. :(

The wife will have to make up yesterday and any other days they miss. I blows my mind that this school district doesn't factor a few days into the mix for snow days. They don't, but luckily they got to have 4 days off for 2 different basketball tournaments. I love it when they prioritize.

We have 2 days factored into our calendar. It has just been such a crazy year that we needed 5 days. What do you expect when we used our 2 days we worked into the schedule back in September/October with flooding?

Oh well, wish everyone well and that Tracy gets out/unburied.

Heading in to practice and grade.

Wow, really!?! I grew up in Wichita Falls (1.5 hours NW of Dallas/Ft. Worth) and we had at least 2 inclement weather days each semester. We rarely needed them, but we got them off nonetheless. :D

Since I've moved to Austin (and central TX in general) it cracks me up over how little it takes for them to delay and/or cancel school. Back in WF we'd get ice storms all the time blowing in from the Rockies, we'd wind up with ice everywhere and school delayed a few hours. Here, if there's a 1/4" of ice one 1 bridge anywhere within Austin, school is canceled and all hell breaks loose on the roads.

We shut down for two days a few years ago because of 1 wet freeze, I was laughing my ass off but enjoying the time off from work. :D

    Hey, don't mess with Texas!
    :D

there's that Tips for Northerners moving to the South [slash]I need to find[/slash], where one of them is that if the weather forecast hints at even the slightest of slim chances for snow, your presence is immediately recquired at the local grocery store...whether you need milk, bread, etc, or not :D

the funniest part is, Northerners think it's actually a joke.....

Hey Jim, sorry for you and Jen about the brush handle, it was really looking sharp, you were doing an awesome job. I am hoping maybe you can salvage something out of it.

I'm no yankee you fool! I was born and raised in TX, hell I've got blood lines to two tribes that have been here long before Columbus. I've been trying to convey your message to the idiots in Austin since I moved here from a more um...native Texan inhabited region.

People here will crowd and wipe out all grocery stores if there's a 90% chance for rain.

thanks, thanks everyone for the positive feedback, it helps me feel better about starting a new one.
I tossed and turned all night over this....oh, and another fact I'll post after this, because it needs attention to itself only...
I think I may be able to salvage it, either by just removing the bottom all together, and having a vase-like shape, of maybe try to use some other type of wood as a contrasting base (thanks for the suggestion, I can't remember right off whose it was)

either way, I'll be starting over with Jen's soon, but progress on both may be impeded.......

my apologies, I wasn't implying you were a Yankee, I'd never say such a thing about anyone...if they aren't a Yankee, they'll be highly offended and may invoke the "he needed killin'" policy; and if they are, they already suffer enough :happy102
    (just kidding with y'all!)

Yeah, we're usually due for on last gasp, too. It always seems to come after it's been teasing us with 55°-65° weather. Well, we had that, and now have the 25°-30° weather, but I haven't heard of any snow yet. Keep your fingers crossed!:D

it's funny how such a minor event, such as a shave brush handle mishap, can be blown so far out of proportion to be felt as a huge event. Reality often has a way of putting those things back in perspective....

    For my praying friends:
I got the call early this morning one of my uncles in Mobile is in the hospital, there are several issues right now, but the main one is heart surgery happening this morning. Most of my extended family is in Mobile, with 5 uncles and their families there, but this uncle is my Mom's only sibling, so she's a bit distraught, and at the moment things seem rather bleak.
I trust God's sovereignty, as most of you know of me, even when I don't understand it.
In the same way I pray for all of you when you request it, I don't pray that everything goes our way, but rather that God's will is done, and we have the courage and strength to accept it with peace and joy, and is the same I ask of you this morning.
    Thank you

I'm not the prayin' type, but I hope that the powers that be are looking after your family and you.

I hope things turn out for the best, man.

I found out a couple of weeks ago that one of my grandfathers has cancer again.
Last I heard they should be able to operate and he likely won't even need chemo.
But, being that he's almost 80, any surgery is tough to recover from.

Maybe 'marble-ize' around the area where the break is with paint.......not the whole thing, but just around the flat part....

    just brainstorming....
