I just popped in to say hi and have read this sad news. I'm very sorry to hear of your families loss Jason. I'm also sad for our little family too. Rolls was a character with a capital Q, and I will miss his antics. He will live on forever in shaving lore w/ his unicorn horn brush, his Noxzema quest and his never ending legal dramas. I will also think of him every time I strop a DE blade silly as that sounds. RIP old friend. I'll catch you on the other side someday.

    seeking honest response:

I changed my avatar this morning upon hearing the news of Rolls, kinda as my personal tribute of recognizing and respecting him.
    Is it too much?

    EDIT: nevermind

Question for you science and smerty people.

I have some tins that I just got. My intention was to put my shaving soap in them so I can stack them. It just dawned on me that they may be prone to rusting. Will they rust or will they work just fine. They are very similar to the tins sold at specialty bottle.

Since some shaving soaps come in tins, I'm not sure it would be a problem.

So I am safe to assume that this is truly tin? The bottom tag says tin.

Don't honestly know what to tell ya, Tracy. I aint all that smart and scientific. My Pre de Provence soap is in a screwtop tin and I know some other brands come in a can. I haven't heard of any of them rusting, but now you've made me wonder.

I wouldn't worry about yours that came in a tin. I read over at the B how the ones people buy will rust because they aren't coated. Yours should be coated so I don't imagine it will rust.

A couple of years ago, the group of Austin sportbike owners that I consider friends lost a young man to an accident.
I knew him only in passing, but the strong sentiments that I observed from those who were closer to him made me really feel like I had missed something by not knowing him better.

I get this same feeling with Rolls.

Coated with what I wonder....and could you use some coating on the tins you bought???

Where's all the science ppl when we need them anyway?

I thought about that but I think I will just get some Anchor Hocking bowels. I like the looks of the tins but they are dirt cheap and I will use them in my shop for something. I really don't want to have to make sure they are wiped dry every time because of rusting.

I guess I could just get a tetnis shot and go.:D

The B-52's were wrong on this one....tin doesn't rust. Rust is oxidation on iron and iron containing metals. AFAIK, tin doesn't contain iron.

However, I'm not a metallurgist, either. But I do have Google ;) :happy102

I have had "cookie tins" that have gotten some rust in joints where moisture can collect or be difficult to get rid of completely. However, I don't know if they're truly tin or not....

Fill one with water, dump it out but don't dry it out. See what it looks like in the morning.... You could maybe get some wax to line them with, too.....

I fear/wonder if they really are tin. The wax idea is definately something to ponder.

Do you have a link for the Anchor Hocking bowls? I was just on their site and didn't see anything that would work, IMO... so I figure I'm missing something...
