Good morning everyone. Had another good Rollshave this morning. :happy088

I just got in a Rolls Razor handle PIFed by Shavingidiot Savant. Class act, that guy Martin is. He also sent me a spare blade, and wouldn't accept anything from me, not even to cover shipping. Rolls was going to look for one for me........ I was hoping to lean on him some while learning how to use the Rolls Razor. I know he'll be there in spirit, though.....


Took tomorrow and Thursday off, meeting Mom&Dad for lunch and antiques tomorrow, also to for the "surprise" they brought back from England for me....

 

morning folks. daughter and wife were sick for the past two days. It looks like daughter's in better shape, but the wife still hasn't recovered. I'm back at work for the moment but that might be a temporary situation...

 

I dunno... I rank "New Socks" as one of the top five greatest feelings/experiences in the world. I like my sneakers better once they've been "broken in." But new socks... woohoo! If I ever became a gazillionaire the first thing I'd do is go out and buy 365 pair of new socks--just so every day for a year I could wear a brand new pair.

Wow... looks like HYD is close to hitting the 600 page mark. It probably will while I'm sleeping today.
Right now I'm sitting around waiting for the bank to open and morning rush hour to subside so I can go take out some cash. Apparently some unworthy individual(s) nicked my Visa check card number and made a few little charges that I was fortunate enough to have caught yesterday.
I had to cancel the card and will probably be without one for a week or two.

Let me take this opportunity to say I effing hate thieves. :mad:
May the fleas of 1000 camels infest their armpits.
May the angel of vengeance be ever at their side with fresh lemons sliced and ready to exacerbate the slightest paper cut and bug bite.
May the Jehovah's Witnesses knock at their door right as they are sitting down to watch the game or spend some intimate time with their girlfriend.
And may they be stuck buying Mach 3 cartridges and canned goo with their own money for all eternity.

So mote it frickin' be.

Sorry to hear that happened to you....luckily you caught it quickly..

 

I just picked up a Rolls Razor myself (with another on the way). Then I spent about about 10 minutes lightly sanding and reconditioning the strop, and another 30-45 honing/stropping it into shape. I did a little 3" test on my arm and whoa it went smooth! I only hope it works as well on my not so flat face.

 

'evenin' are y'all getting wet up there? We just had a good rain roll through that brought along some mini (BB) sized hail.

As for the thieves, some folks just need killin'. Some a lot slower than others...

Is a Rolls Razor basically the same thing as an Autostrop?

I'm not familiar with an Autostrop, but from what I've guessed is they are similar in a way. My take on the Autostrop is a strop runs through the razor between the handle and blade and you run it back and forth on a strop?

Here's a pictorial guide to mah Rolls Razor...

At the top is the travel case with spare blade in a holder, then the shave handle. From left to right is the hone, case body which contains the operating handle with blade attached, then the strop.

Thanks for the info. I see them in about every antique store but didn't know if all the pieces were there. I think I know where a decently priced complete set is located, I may just have to liberate it tomorrow and try it on Thursday.
