Micah... nice tag-line on ONS today! Saw it on here earlier today, but didn't catch what it was coming from... At the time, I didn't want to go figure it out either.

Thanks! Decided it was time to tag all my entries on there. Right now, they're all the same.

Well yes, you do have a tag line now too.. I was actually talking about the added caption.... "It's not raining. The angels are crying because of something you want to do!"

silly me... but it is odd if you just tagged your entries and made that error....

anyone have any good ideas about getting a dog to stay in its fence?

background: we recently moved and there is a neighborhood dog that people just leave food out for and what not, well my 6yr old daughter of course fell in love with it and the dog is GREAT with kids including my 1yr old son. So its been around quite a bit and then for like 2 to 3 days no dog, well the wife calls the local shelter and sure enough its there. so she guys and pays 10 bucks to get it out. take it to the vet to get the rabbi shot up to date, etc. Its a 2-3 yr old golden retriever mix or so the vet said. well now a neighbor down the street is saying that its been getting into there man made pond and they don't want the liner torn.

Any ideas that have worked for you? I don't see how we are going to get this dog that likes to roam to stay in one place even if its an acre yard.

Wow... so you've adopted a dog who has never had a master, views himself as leader, and has no boundaries. Call Cesar Milan. :D

Seriously, though, I'll PM you my email....a lot of help is needed there, and it'd be best to not clog up a shaving website.... ;)

Congrats Shep on the qualifying! :happy088

Tough one. We had a kennel made of chain link fence for two dogs when I was growing up, but they kept tunneling their way under it. If your dog likes to dig then it's pretty hard keeping him inside. You'd have to bury the fencing a foot or so below the earth and then ensure it's high enough above ground so the dog can't jump it. You're talking some expense and some labor to accomplish that.

We had a heckes of a time getting our adopted dog to stay inside the fence. Finally the third time she broke through it and bit another dog, she had to go.

yeah i have a feeling we might just not get along with these neighbors. I heard after the fact that the guy was a prick to my wife when the conversation started. I pulled up coming from work and he didn't say much. they live up the hill couple of houses away so ___ 'em.

Good luck with the dog... Sounds like you got plenty of offers for advice so I will not try to ruin the stew...

OK... I think I like the avatar from this morning better than this spinning thing.

I have no real experience with them, but those electronic fence/collar combinations seem like a good idea. Dogs tend to be pretty good at digging under fences, unless you have some really good healthy carpet-grass.

A lot of people have ethical issues with those so that may become a hot spot with the neighbors. Also as I understand the system, if a dog crosses the line while at a run, it gets a moment of discomfort but it is already across the line. Now the dog gets a shock when it tries to walk across cross the line again to get back in the yard. End result is the dog that is out is trained not to come back in....
