I love my Zune. I haven't had it very long, but it already stands out as an excellent device. I've had three different versions of the iPod (5G 30Gig video, 5G 80Gig video, 2G Touch) and a few different Sansas, and the Zune is by far the better product. I've had my 30gig video replaced under warranty twice because it flat out died, with the third one on the fritz. My 80gig has been a little more robust, but is showing the same signs that it's about to give up on me. The iPod Touch I just got bored with and gave to my mother. It was more a test run to see how I would like the iPhone, and it just wasn't that great after the initial novelty wore off. The Sansas were nice, but seemed awful prone to locking up. I'd have to wait until the battery drained down before I would be able to reset it and use it again.

The Zune, so far, seems far more solidly built. Its construction is head and shoulders above the Sansa, and slightly better than the iPods. The built in FM tuner is incredibly nice and works phenomenally well, especially when tied into the Zune Pass. My two Sansas had FM tuners as well, but they seemed incredibly limited in their range.

The OS on the Zune is by far my favorite part. It's simple, well laid out, and very intuitive. It took just a short bit to get used to after being used to the iPod's setup. The display is nice and big, with sharp colors and excellent use of the available space. The one thing that I never got about my iPod videos was how the album cover was barely stamp sized, and the rest of the display was just wasted space. The Zune uses much of the display to show the album cover while still showing the other stuff like time left on the song and volume. It's small things like that which really stand out.

For the record, I have a first gen 30gig in brown (looks cool as hell) that was bought as a refurb. It looks brand spanking new. When it comes time to add or replace, I'll definitely be getting another Zune. I hear a touch screen version is on the horizon.

One thing I will say for the Zune... the only person I've personally known who owned one liked it quite well. He also happened to be a veteran high-end audio designer (built vacuum tube amps for a living) with tens of thousands of dollars worth of audiophile grade home stereo equipment.

If it was good enough for him, I think it's probably a pretty nice player. (it was the old brown one)

yeah, that's my only beef with the Zune, but it's not that bad...

I do prefer to drag and drop like with my Sansa, but I'll tell you what, I cannot complain about transfer speed with the Zune software! Man it's fast!

oh, as for how's my day?

not bad, yesterday's dental appointment was the worst so far, as far as pain is concerned, even worse than the root canal!
had three more cavities filled, but the location made it worse than the others. so far this has been the only visit where I've needed some ibuprofen afterward. this was the 2nd round of cavity filling since the root canal, with one more to go.
I know what you're thinking - why keep going? well, the root canal was bad enough that I want to take care of all the problems, cheaper, early on than deal with them more painfully and expensively later.
Still, the dentist admits my teeth weren't that bad for having not been to the dentist in over 11 years....:ashamed001

    you are....:rolleyes::happy102

no, but look at the circumstances....over 11 years since last (prior to root canal in October) dental visit, 11 year wedding anniversary today...hmmmm
    :D

this year is the first we've kinda been able to afford dental insurance, and the only reason we made it happen is for my tooth that needed the RC...otherwise I might've had to do some Castaway-style dental work on myself....

I sent it back once. 6 months later got it back and still had the same problems. It has a touch screen that a ghost constantly hits unless I lock it down. Once locked it works fine except its shuffle function is sorely lacking. I have 320 songs on it and it plays the same 25 songs mostly with all the others thrown in once in a while.

If it worked as it should, it would have been an awesome purchase.

I hear ya on the dental ins and even with ins they don't cover most of it or at least in my experience.

I've got a zen too. Mine's the 2g version they had at walmart. It's amazing how easy it is to watch movies on that tiny screen. But yeah, I use mine the same way... dropped a 4gig card in it and use Mediamonkey. I just wish it had a .txt file reader built in.

Also, with all the recent terminator talk, you guys might appreciate this.

Had a bad experience with mp4nation? I've admired some of the stuff they sell for years... Most of it looks to be pretty decent for the price. I thought they had a pretty good track record. Guess not. Of course, it might be that most people who buy from them have lowered expectations.

Well, the new bypass password for the filters didn't make it a week before the students figured it out. Which means, someone on staff leaked it. I figure it's the teacher whose contract didn't get renewed and yesterday was her last day.

I think I'm going to change the password to something like:

    "IamagiantdoodieheadifIsharethispasswordwithany1"

You know, just to get the point accross.
