hmmm, French Press, capital idea, Justin, precisely what I need this morning....now to find a French Maid to press....:happy097

and yes, my Firefox is wanting a restart to, but I'm going to make him earn it...or at least until I'm done

heading back home from Texarkana last night we saw a bunch of lightening, but never saw any rain, I meant to check some radars online but never got a chance, wife "demanded" my "attention"....of course, there are no complaints from me

We had some boomers the last two nights here.
I think it's the high humidity and oppressive heat sparking them off.

Mmm... French Press... I leave mine at work most of the time.
I need to get a better one, preferably in a thermal material.
That's always the problem with french press coffee... it gets cold before I've had all I want of it.

yeah, we had a tornado warning a couple nights ago, the night they rolled through your area pretty bad, but it (the warning) was called off about 5 minutes before it was to get to us...wow, but we still got some humdinger of a, ummm, better change my wording - lots of wind blowing :)rolleyes::D), and a pretty good, albeit short, drenching

as far as french press at work, I debated on that for the longest time, eventually ordered an Aeropress for the office, haven't regretted since

I make a full batch with the french press, pour half of it into my thermal travel style mug and the other half into a thermos. Keeps it hot until I am ready for it.

I guess that is the advantage of working in a science lab. I have plenty of sinks and outlets. I just use a hot pot to get my water boiling while I take care of morning details (watering plants, booting computer etc.), then grind coffee and have coffee ready by the time I am ready to do any work.

I used to do that, make my press in the morning, or even the night before, and put it in my thermos, which works excellently.
however, I still wanted the ability to make a press at work for those times I *gasp* forgot to make coffee!
the aeropress is definitely the answer, easy cleanup, easy to make a great cup of coffee (by "cup" I mean big 16 oz cup :D)
I do have a sink in my office, I use a Sunbeam Hot Shot to boil my water, excellent setup, works great for tea, too

I was thinking about getting a second french press so I had one at home and at work, but how does the aeropress compare? I know, we have had this conversation before. Maybe even on this exact thread.

Justin, how did you get your links in your sig a different color? I tried several things to get mine to be the color I picked, but to no avail?

well, the aeropress makes a "smoother" cup, as it has a paper filter, so it takes some of the oils out, but not as much as a drip coffee maker, it's less bitter than a french press brew, but plenty strong and quite good. it is certainly an excellent alternative to a FP, especially in an office environment where a traditional FP may not be efficient

I've tweaked how I use mine slightly from the directions, but following the directions does lead to a great brew

I think it is very particular on where you put the color code.. the color code has to be inside the URL code but after the link.

I guess it is the paper filter that has kept me from the aeropress. I don't like dealing with the paper filters and I don't like getting a paper taste. I used to use a mesh filter on my drip coffee maker for the same reason.

yeah, I have a mesh filter on my drip machine for the same reason - wife hates it, but she hardly uses it anyway, likes the simplicity of the Senseo.

but honestly, the paper filters for the Aeropress are so thin, they don't do much more than keep the grounds out of the cup, it's definitely very different than a drip machine, very very close to a FP. and besides putting the filter in the contraption, you don't mess with it anymore, it pops out with the "coffee puck", unless you choose to rinse it off and reuse it, which I've done several times, the brew actually tastes better because it can't absorb much more of the oils

Good to know. I may have to look into that in the fall when school starts back up.

I see you got the color sorted out on your links. Looks much better that way!

oh yeah, been trying to do that, thought I had tried every possible method, but....

after doing the first one manually, like you posted, I thought "well, maybe if the color tags have to be inside the link tags, perhaps if I choose a color first, then URL...aha!"

but, I swear I tried that before!
maybe a system update since then?
eh, who cares, it's working now! :happy108

I think I made my links then went in and selected the text portion and adjusted the color. Buy hey, it works now!
