Hey Gang, happy Saturday! Lot's of action in here for a weekend - that's good to see. I've had an interesting day. Was up until about 4am after that 3-shot Aeropressed coffee last night. Woke up at 11 thinking "I need to press some coffee!". :happy005 Did so and had it with breakfast. Ran through a bunch of research then pressed another, ran to the hardware store, built a small project and went grocery shopping. Now it's about time to make chocolate chip cookies so it smells nice in here when my wife comes home.

    Don't read this Ray:
I think I love my Aeropress.

you asking me? about the netbook?

it's doing great! I'm backing up what I have on it so far, gonna put XP Pro on it so I can create a disk image for our mobile labs we're getting, then I think I'm going to try and put the Windows 7 RC on it, dual booted with Ubuntu :D

for what it is, it's great. for surfing the web, doing to typing and general piddling, it's perfect. If you're going to have more demanding tasks, go with a full laptop. Basically think of it as a beefed-up PDA

I love my Fantasy Football Roster. Had a draft today in a competitive league. Adrian Peterson, LT, Roddy White, Aaron Rodgers, Eli Manning... :happy088

    Thanks

I think net use and basic word processing would be her main use.

it should do fine then. it wouldn't surprise me if within a year they're twice as powerful as they are now, and can handle a lot more. I doubt they'll handle full laptop tasks like video and music editing, hardcore tasks, & stuff, for the cooling and power requirements those take, but basic web and document stuff, some multimedia, etc, they're the way to go. battery life is great, doesn't get real hot, light, easy to carry...yeah, I like it. but do bear in mind most don't have an optical drive. you can get a USB one if it's that big of a deal, but it hasn't been an issue for me yet...of course, I've got eleventy-seven other machines I can go and copy a discs contents onto a flash drive with.
I was going to get my wife one for her grad school classes, but I figured online courses, online video of the class, all the buffering, etc., full-size laptop is what she'll need. Got a really good deal, too, but.....
then she changes her mind on what master's degree she's going for, and will be actually going to campus instead of online, and the netbook would've been fine :shocked031

    oh well

LOL... my wife hasn't figured out what she is going to do yet. She is just taking the general electives now and have some online courses and some traditional. So far the online stuff is Blackboard intensive. But a netbook should handle that.

Oh well, I am falling asleep while watching football. I guess I need to go to bed.

its been a weird year.. first we were constantly flooding with multiple storms of the century... then cold and dry all summer with only a few days here and there of summer temps followed by more cold and dry. Ground was parched and completely dry and leaves were turning and falling in early August. For some reason storms kept going just North or South of us and everything thing here just dried up. Now we have had clouds, and wet for over a week and things are getting back to flood stage. We are still waiting for summer and we are heading towards winter. Nothing like temps in the 30's and 40's for lows with highs barely in 60's in August when we are usually pushing 100.

Hey... watch what you are calling me! :D

Meteorology is one of my background areas. So yes, I know it can be meteorologicaly and scientifically explained. That doesn't excuse that has still been a weird weather year.

Years ago... my wife taught me not to use scientific explanations when "weird" would suffice for everyday use. Driving through mountains, I am looking at the geological forces and want to point out neat examples of folding, upwarping, etc... each time, my wife looks at me and just says in a corrective tone "pretty" and here we are 15 years later, and she is still working on trying to drive the point home.
