I am doing all right, thanks! Keeping way too busy between work and my son, but things are good. Doing a few brushes recently, but not a ton. I have a boar and a synthetic knot I hope to do soon for myself. How have things with you been? You're working the floor at the casino now right?

I hope to never have to go back on the floor lol.. I am still In surveillance. Which I love. I am doing much better these days. Things back in order. I got the knot out of that brass handle I have... do you remember what size knot I need to put in it. It was one of my uncles so want to get it back in working order.

For some reason I thought I remembered you saying you were moving from surveillance. Glad to hear you are doing well.

That brass handle will take a 20mm knot well. Can't set them too deep, so I would recommend something with a bit of backbone, like best or boar.

I had applied for a Director of Security post at another casino awhile back.. That is about what it would take for me to move from where I am. other then a directors job I am happy to stay where I am.

It was probably a boar to start with i am thinking. But is it not hard to find a 20mm boar knot?

They were very difficult to find, but golden nib has them now. He has really added to his selection lately.

Edit: just saw they are 18-20mm. That could cause issues.

Yep, it seems like many of those knots has a 2mm spread. I'm looking at a 26-28mm silvertip to refit an old boar brush. Got any tricks for fitting them if the new knot is slightly small?

Oh, and Rodd, do you know any other sources of knots?

With most of the brushes I do, I set the knots deeper, so that allows you to set the depth to a point that it fills the old knot hole, and often I actually grind the hole larger to fit my knot of choice. The brass handles did not give the option of going deeper or enlarging the hole, so that is a little harder.

The only other source I know of is blankity-blanks, but I get all of mine from Anthony at TGN.

Thanks, Rodd. I've only done one, an old Everready. The knot was a bit big, so I hogged out the hole a bit to make it fit, then stuffed the hollow handle with rolled up thin cardboard from a kleenex box to get the depth right. I was afraid it would be too heavy, but the cardboard took up just the right amount of space. Guess I never realized that if the knot were too small it would just fill up the hole if set a bit deeper. Thanks!

yeah, blankity blanks is the only other site I've found for knots, but they're much more expensive

Been thinking about getting a GN knot (maybe synthetic) and putting it in a short piece of 1" thin wall PVC. Just enough to hold on to and small enough for the entire brush to slip into a small pill bottle for traveling.

But for all of that, I could probably get a cheap VDH local and chop its handle down....

    here's what you do:

get aforementioned knot and pill bottle, glue know to inside of pill bottle lid.

    voila!

to store or travel, simply put lid on bottle, brush will magically appear inside bottle!

    Howdy... how is the you?

I have a synthetic burma shave brush I have been playing with for a travel brush.. if my thinking is right it will not have the issue with drying that the boar or badger will have...

Well I suppose one could do that if one had the fancy bottles with reversible caps.

Fuzzy: that is why I was thinking about going synthetic for the project.

I do have a body shop brush that is useless and is being used for travel as it is... Maybe it could give up its knot...
