Ok, so now I need to find a nice inexpensive laptop with wifi. I would like it to have a dvd burner and be under $400. O/S optional. I've seen some powerbooks on ebay that look a little tempting. I wonder how hard it'd be to load puppy on one of those.

 

hmmm....you're looking at laptops; I'm slightly debating selling mine and upgrading....don't know if I will or not, but the idea is in my head....

Also, found a link in there to the purported Microsoft Courier - 'tis my first hearing of it, that I recollect anyway, I'm sure Micah's probably mentioned it to me before - and looks flippin' awesome! Hope it's real!

 

Ok, so walmart has these Belkin wifi access points for around $30... any good? Or should I just go ahead and spend a little extra and get a Netgear? I doubt I'm going to hack it, I just want something that's going to let us connect. Nothing special. As tempting as a linux moddable WAP is, I don't think I really need that. Any thoughts?

Oh and thanks to those that prayed for me last night, I'm much more at peace today, and I've found my focus about that particular individual.

 

The Belkin ones are great, if you're going to go new....
The one Doug now has actually gave me longer signal range that the current Linksys I have, although the Linksys is faster - not for internet speed, of course, but for my home network.
Still looking wireless routers, one that I had just about settled on and planned to order I discovered had some issues with overheating and short range, and for that price it shouldn't have any.
But, I don't think you'll be disappointed at all with the Belkin if you go that way.

It's all in the wrist and the shoulder. You gotta get em pretty flat to fit em in the cd drive. I suppose you could solder it directly onto the motherboard, though...
