    STMOTD:
Chicken soup. Get down with that funky stuff. Mmmmmm.

My day's starting well. 1.5 hrs of water arobics and strength stuff, a big cup of joe and now some shredded wheat for breakfast. FINALLY got my Kent H8 yesterday. The Kent folks were kind enough to send along a tub of their shaving cream too, so I'm about to have a blast with new stuff! It's :sad029 here today and that makes me very :D !!!

uuggggh, stayed at home today, neck and shoulders hurting, kinda like I slept wrong, but can't hardly turn my head, moving my arms is limited and painful, plus a head cold and sinus infection trying to start up - gonna try to take it easy and relax today.

that said, I've already had to VPN to work twice to work on stuff....maybe I can get out of a sick day? :D

Hope you feel better without losing sick time, Jim... Think anti-inflammatory meds and a nice nap... ;)

okay, so check it out: (long pointless story warning)

so, when we moved in this house in '03, the range hood didn't work. I vaguely remember messing with it in the first few weeks, but never did anything beyond that. about a year ago, I messed with it again, tried several things, figured that it was just bad, and never went any further.
coupla weeks ago found one on sale at Lowes, bought it, called my brother-in-law, who knows a bit more about the topic than I do - I'd call myself a green belt: I know quite a bit about it, but not everything, just enough to be dangerous :D - and last weekend set out to work on it.
    Removed old unit -check
    Tested wires - no good
Crawled into attice, found where it was patched in at - outlet on outer wall
Removed outlet - neutral was no longer attached
    Ah-ha!
Reattached neutral - still no good
    Wha?
Tested outlet...several different tests, determined outlet (GFCI) to be bad.
Just happened to have an extra GFCI outlet (was going to put them in bathrooms...umm, that's still on the list - along with acquiring another one)
    Tested - check!
Installed new range hood - check
    Lights - check
    Fan - check
    Operation = Success!

    Now me happy.

    But wait, there's more! [IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Took the dogs out to potty a few minutes ago, mulling around in the garage, seeing what all projects I need to get done;
deliver old washer and dryer to new home -
    put shed together -
build work bench for lathe, scroll saw, and possible future grinder -
get rid of old range hood -
    .....
"wait a second, I really need to test that thing" I thought...
cuz I had a crazy idea....what if, after testing and seeing if it works, I mount it above my lathe? kind of a dust-removal system?
    and it has a light!
dang it, I hate when those rusty gears in my head start turning....it hurts!

Hmmm.... I wonder if you turned it on it's side and put it on the opposite side of the lathe, it might be useful... You'll probably want to swap the fan out for something a little stronger. Maybe a $10 mini box fan from Dollar General. Hmmm, thanks, now you've got my tinker-gears churning.

oh yeah, that fan may not work, but then again, it could be perfect, I just don't know. what I do know, though, is that some serious R&D is going to be taken up a lot of my mental processes for awhile!
good thing I haven't built the workbench yet, huh? :D

    uggh

tax prep fees go up, tax return monies go down

hardly worth it. the only benefit is I can't screw it up this way, and knowing how bad I can screw things up, I guess it's worth it

This is so fricken awesome! I am, right now, cruising high speed internet at home on my brand new emachine (rebranded acer 1) netbook! 10.1 inch screen, intel Atom N270 processor, 1 g memory, 250gb hdd, brushed metal inside, shiny black shell. I gave $225 US for it.

I know, I know, it's an emachine. But it's really an Acer 1 with a slightly smaller hdd, a better colour scheme, the emachine logo, and a smaller price tag. Other than that, it's identical. doodoodootdooooo, I'm lovin' it!

Seriously though, this thing was cheap enough, that I might still be able to buy a four jaw chuck for my lathe. Income tax return was veddy good to me for my birfday this year. :D

Congrats on the upgrades Micah and happy belated birthday! :greet002

Tax return? no idea... W2s are are screwy again this year. This time it is my employer that messed up (actually by extension, the mistake is by the untouchable state of Indiana). I have a feeling that any return will just cover my required continuing ed coursework to keep my license. It feels like every time this comes up, the cost of graduate classes increases, the requirement for the credit hours increases, and my source of funds to pay for these state required classes (my tax return) decreases... but it should still be enough to cover the classes and maybe buy a puck or two of Williams.

Sorry... I've been a ghost lately.. . I don't see that changing any time soon.

    a ghost!??!?!
    which one, Pinky? Inky? :rofl

as for tax returns, yeah, right....I was expecting it to go UP this year (it did, a little-bitty-bit) after resigning from church staff, since that pay didn't have any with-holding, my returns were lower the past few years.

eh, oh well, guess I should stop expecting things to work out for me, eh?
