I haven't seen any of the recent transformers movies, but I did check out a dvd of the source material via netflix. oh man, was it ever bad. thirty minutes of nonsensical dialogue, guns, explosions, and "characters" which were really product placements. Oh, and the animation was really, really bad. Those new movies were aiming at some pretty low standards in terms of improving on the original...

took me a full minute to figure out your meaning. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed.

hey, don't insult the smurfs. James Cameron wishes he was that original.

have you seen Cube? It's a 90s sci-fi movie, but it's strikingly original and very low budget. The entire thing was filmed with one set and only six or so actors. Beats the pants off most s.f. releases.

Oh, I guess the Smurfs are okay, for a bunch of diminutive communists. Even as a kid, I had trouble with the smurfs. I mean, really, even the brainiest smurf had a smurfing small vocabusmurf. I always worried for Smurfette's safety, being the only girl smurf in the village... Not to mention the kind of creepy way that Papa Smurf seemed to channel Stalin with his beard and always wearing red. But then, I was a very politically minded child, at the age of five I can remember having an opinion on the elections and coming to terms with my dad's voting record.

I completely agree. I've never been a smurf fan. Don't you think, though, that the smurfs are still more original than James Cameron's Avatar?

I really don't like Avatar, in case you can't tell.

I haven't seen Avatar, but then I'm one to stay away from movies that suffer from Overhypeitis. Usually if a movie is really popular, I'll stay away from it for a few years. It's a formula that has worked well for me. If I watch a "great" movie while it's being forced down our throats with cross marketing and tons of commercial tie-ins, I find they can't live up to the hype. However, after a couple of years and once the hoop-la has died down and nobody's talking about it, I find I can enjoy the movie so much more without preconception. Same is true for television shows. A couple of years ago, I wouldn't entertain watching "The Office" or "Everybody Hates Chris." But now that they're in syndication and on tv every night, I watch them pretty faithfully.

My viewing habits are a strange beast, indeed.

I have to disagree with just about everything you said in that movie post Micah. Avatar looked great but the story was very un-original. It was Dances With Wolves with The Last Samurai in Space.
Looking forward to the Shrek and Toy Story sequels.

I haven't seen any new movies in a while. I was blessed to have a few spare hours after work last night so I decided to see a movie.

I went down to my tv and pulled out from the drawer my VHS collection and started watching scent of a woman. One of my favorite pachino movies of all time!

That was pretty much my point about Avatar (I thought). It looks like a re-tread with blue people, and as for Shrek and Toy Story... I dunno, I've always approached those properties with trepidation, I've been generally surprised by them as they usually turn out better than I expect, but that's only because I've gone into them with such low expectations. I guess I'm just getting burned out on Tom Hanks and Mike Meyers.

Thought I should probably give you guys an update on Jim. I got an update around 3:00 today. He came through the surgery well. He's going to have to wear a splint for 2 weeks, followed by 2 weeks in a cast.

I'd offer an explanation, but it'd just spoil the randomness...

Thanks for letting us know. I was wondering. Tell him we realize he now has an excuse to not wear pants, but only for a couple of weeks!

Mine was #29 which I thought was funnier than 3rd place... as were many others.

What do you think? Too subtle?

yeup...I just read this to my wife, she thought it was sweet, but: that leaves me wondering who you talked to...but now I know :D

Pants? I don't need no steenking pants!

no, seriously, here's a challenge only for the brave:

take your dominant arm, wrap it up real good, put it in a sling, and then: try to go pee. (or type)
haven't had to do "the other" yet, but can't imagine it any easier.

I did spend last week trying to do everything with my left hand, but it's totally different when it's not a voluntary immobilization.

But, I shall make it through. I still keep Nick's story that I mentioned before constantly at the front of mind.

It's gonna be a tough but not impossible road, will check in when I can, though I probably won't type much :o

cleaning is easy- just rinse with water and use scrubbing bubbles. do not boil it. that will ruin the finish.

for blades, get a sampler pack and go through it until you find what works for you.
