Have you considered Puppy lately? The latest pup is built using Ubuntu binaries, so it's kind of a hybrid puppy. Pretty promising.

Yeah... I was going to look at puplets again yesterday. I am running browserlinux (a puppy puplet) on an old laptop and its fairly stable. However, the puppy site was down yesterday.

Hey gang, I want to ask a favor.

Please say a prayer of thanksgiving for my family. My brothers and their families went to Albert Pike campgrounds in Arkansas this week and were staying at their cabin. I don't know if you've seen it on the news or not, but the river rose 20 feet in a very short time frame overnight while everyone was sleeping. 16 people confirmed dead, and 40 missing/unaccounted for. You can't get cell-phone coverage in the area, and there are no landlines. I was freaking out.

Called my Pop, and he said he'd just spoken with my eldest brother. Their cabin was far enough away from the river to have been spared, and my brothers, their wives, and my nephews are all safe. They've been helping with the rescue and recovery efforts. Please send a "Thank you" to God, and ask for comfort for the bereaved and protection for the missing.

    Praise the Lord.

If you want no-frills, balls-to-the-wall performance with little customization, I might recommend turbo-pup extreme. I ran it for a while on my oldenbusted laptop, and I can't recommend it enough for just browsing the web.

I will keep that in mind. So far openbox with peppermint is doing fairly well. Within Openbox I can run just about anything in the terminal (including Wine starcraft.exe).

A little more info on the flood...

My family are all fine, they even have electricity. My brothers are working with the rescue and recovery personnel. There are 16 dead, and at least 30 missing. Among the unaccounted-for are the sister of a close family friend and her husband. I'm not sure about my neighbors. I just talked to sis-in-law, and she said that they thought they had gone camping somewhere else and so should be safe. Please keep everyone in your prayers.

You're family are all in my my prayers, Micah. They're doing good work, even though it must be very trying.

we've been out of town the past two days, and my mom texted said 20 people dead, 40 missing, some Atlanta people among them, in the flood.

    I'm like, WHAT FLOOD??!?!?!
I'm panicking thinking Distraction is flooded, but then I called and it's all straight now.

Glad to hear your family's safe, Micah.

Some member's of our youth minister's wife's family, last I heard, are still unaccounted for. I don't know how close relation they are, if they're immediate or far extended.

It's just bad all around, I saw a group on facebook just now that there was also a flood, probably same source, down at Caddo, asking prayers for both events.

Meanwhile, we're back home - fixing to turn around and go to Little Rock and visit Emily, it's her birthday. My mom and some others went up yesterday and said she's doing real good.

Update 1: found out late yesterday that 3 members of our youth minister's wife's family died in the Albert Pike flood; they were just bringing the youth back from a mission trip, too.

Update 2: Emily is doing SOOOOOOOO good! There's always going to be questions and concerns when dealing with brain injuries, but to see the progress from the little girl from three weeks ago to the little girl swinging her legs and flailing her arms is amazing. She's still not fully "awake", although she does move and look around and vocalize (mostly sounds like moans like she's in pain, but she can't talk yet), she will respond and to questions, and can blink her eyes if you ask her to in response to a question...just so many encouraging signs, but still a long ways to go. She's still got a neck brace, but all the other "attachments" - feeding tubes (she's now got on directly in her stomach, she kept pulling at the other one), breathing tube, brain drain, everything, is gone!
There's still plenty of work to do, she starts 'aggressive' physical therapy tomorrow, and lots to pray for, but plenty of praise and blessings to count, too.

    Thank you all so much!

feels great, I'm getting a lot of flexibility back, but there's still some tenderness and weakness.
I start physical therapy this week, that goes for two weeks, then I can start some strengthening.

Okay, you lot have seen my movie reveiws. It might not look like it, but a lot of work goes into doing them. So much so, that I hesitate watching movies because I don't have time to dedicate to writing the reviews. It's half way through the year, and I've only watched 20 something movies. There's no way, at the pace I'm going, I can reach my goal of 200 by year-end. What I'm thinking of doing is just making a list of movies I've recently watched, and maybe doing some kind of rating so readers will know if I liked it or not. Then, on really outstanding movies (Great or Horrible) maybe writing a full review. What do you think? I watched a couple of movies last week, but I haven't brought myself to review them yet as it's just so much work.

I'm thinking, without reviews, I could still watch 200 this year. But with reviews, there's no way.

makes sense to me. I was wondering what happened to your 200 movie goal. At this point I think I'm beating you- but then, I haven't been keeping close count and I haven't been reviewing.

I also haven't been counting movies I've watched on broadcast TV. We have a station (THISTV) that shows old movies, and I watch them pretty frequently, but I haven't been counting anything with commercial interruption.
