I hate it when you offer something that you really don't want to do to the kiddo or wife figuring that they won't want to do it either. However, you know if you don't offer, they will complain later. Then, just to thwart your otherwise evil plans, they go ahead and take the offer...

Okay, a friend of mine has an HP Compaq laptop that has stopping functioning. She went out and bought a new one. Problem is, she had a bunch of pictures on the non-working computer that she really wants to transfer over. How the heck would she go about doing that? The old laptop powers on, but no functions work (that she knows of at least). Anyone have any ideas?

 

probably the easiest way would be to get an external hard drive enclosure, take the hard drive out of the old laptop and put it inside the enclosure, and plug it up to the new laptop

you can do a search for "2.5 inch hard drive USB enclosure" and get an idea of what's out there. Depending on certain factors, she may want to get a good quality enclosure if the hard drive is in good condition, has lots of storage space, as it would make a great backup or portable storage solution

if it's an old hard drive, or may be failing, and she just wants to get the files, then one of the cheaper ones should work

Well, seeing that HYD should be sponsored by NetFlix with all the talk it gets here, I thought I would offer this to the HYD crew. I have 4 one month free NetFlix passes. If interested, in one let me know. Otherwise, I will take them to work on Monday.

Looking at the cell phones still. Our current contract ends this weekend. I just can't decide if I want a simple no-feature phone, a phone like what I have but better, or a real smart phone.

as for phones, I'm honestly a "simpler is better" person, but I'm loving my Droid - if it could only make me a sammich....

 

Yeah... really like the ruggedness of the G'zOne brigade. But it is very bulky.

How odd, I could have sworn that was a full box of Pumpkin Delights just a few minutes ago.
