Okay, so I went to the store today. For the first time in my life, I used the coffee grinder there. I got my usual bag of Green Mountain, and then reground it "Espresso" style. So, when I get the Aeropress, will this aid in making a stronger cup?

technically, yes, the finer the grind/smaller the pieces, the more surface area to come into contact with the water, the more extraction of the java-y goodness there is.

But, the finer the grind, the higher the chance that it may pack down and not let any water through when you get ready to press. Or, it may not completely stop it up, but can make it harder to press. I've never had a problem with this, but it does inform you in the directions.

the main factors that will influence the strength of your caffiene-delivery system will be: type of bean used, how it's roasted, how it's ground, temperature of water, extraction time. For example, I really like french and dark roasts, I usually grind just larger than espresso, and let it steep for about 60 seconds. The only thing I can't really control (with my setup the way it is) is water temp. Whatever I get out of my Hot Shot is what I have to use, I don't know what temp it is, but it's boiling and gets the job done.

I have the one Fatboy that I picked up for $3 that cleaned up fairly well..... but a young noob shave buddy wants to give it a go. If he does not like it then I might get rid of the DE thing.

Early, early, and I'm off to see the wizard... it's Angelfood Ministries morn. That means travel an hour away in a church van, hauling a trailer, with boxes and a clipboard, to show up in a dimly lit parking lot, surrounded by other church vans and trailers, to pick up many frozen boxes of meats, breads, and veggies, count and stack, bring back to our church, sort and label...

Weird, but somehow all the above works out and lots of people in the community get some great food deals because of it. Sounds a little uncomfortable on my part, but it's really easy once I force myself out of bed on a Saturday morning. If you have a chance at helping Angelfood in a church near you, give it a try. You might feel blessed by it.

    Have a great day.
