too true. it seems that church bodies aren't adequately creating disciples, and more inclined/interested in creating numbers.

too many "believers" are more interested in getting their gold star for attendance, and thinking they have a "Get out of Hell free" card, and either not confident enough in what they've chosen to believe, or too busy thinking they believe in something they haven't put much thought into.

Again, it's a problem with half-assery (see my post above :D)

I used to be that way. Wouldn't want to enter into serious discussions about it because I either didn't feel adequate to discuss, or was confident in my ability to counter (debate is NOT a strong point of mine).

STR.org is an incredible resource, anyone interested should check it out

oh yeah. read it and agree. it goes for much more than just church- it's just that church is what I know best these days. and that's not saying much.

I've never really dug into that site - I'll have to do so.

My favorite online resource for theological matters is CARM.org.

While we're on the topic of standing firm in your beliefs, I heartily recommend this short book (26 pages, give or take) to my Christ-following friends. Read up on the author and it's that much more stirring.

CARM is good, too! I'm opposite of you, I've never dug a lot into CARM, but I have visited and looked around a few times.

I get the STR podcast and it's my main to-and-fro work listening, so it's what I'm most familiar with (and now there's an STR app for Droid! :happy108)
I've really gotten into apologetics here lately, and while there's no way I could ever come up with the discussions and reasonings myself, and even sometimes some of the deeper, loftier topics go way above my head (not hard to do, really...just ask Micah), I love listening and reading and learning about it, and it really has challenged me and helped to grow a lot.

Speaking of Micah, I remember you mentioning that book, I have it bookmarked, but haven't had chance to read it, but I intend to.

If you want to see a really old blog gathering cobwebs that I started on the topic, check out engfaith.blogspot.com. I either need to update or kill the blog, can't believe I've left it hanging so long.

I feel the need to add in bit of a disclaimer here:

For those who aren't Christian, feel free to bring up other topics and/or ask questions. This isn't a religious forum or thread. New tangents are always welcome.

Also, while we're talking in a fairly cursory manner on this thread; if anyone wants to talk more indepth PMs are a good way to do it (or at least start - really long conversations are better in email).

Mike - As an LCMS Lutheran, I've studied the RC and Luther's Catachisms side by side. While we obviously disagree on a few issues, it's nice to see you post your links as the points covered are things every serious Christians should devote some significant thought toward. The few very minor issues I'd have with the material on CARM are places I'd agree with the RC view.

Okay, while we're throwing around good resources for Christian doctrine discussed at length, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Audioevangelism.com(the link goes to the archives).
