How odd. a few years back somebody smashed the window of my Torrent rifled through everything and the only thing that I could find that was missing was my FM modulator, the power cord for my radar detector, and the rechargeable batteries for my hand held GPS unit. Of course it has been a few years now and I am still finding pieces of glass and I haven't put new batteries in the GPS unit. I kid you not.

On an up note, my eldest brother stopped by today just as I was getting off work, and he gave me a Christmas present.

Ahhh... holiday break. Family is coming to visit and we will be going on the road to visit other parts of the family. Of course, there are all the normal holiday trappings to consider as well. What is daughter (10 year old) most excited by? We are going to work together to build a trebuchet. I have been asked three times already if we are going to buy stuff today. Yup... she's definitely got some of those geek genes inherited.

I guess since you're saying that it's recently available, that you're using Opera Mobile? Opera Mini has been out for quite some time, I always heard great things about it, and it was one of the first things I installed.
It was okay, but Mobile is much better.

And, as of last night, Opera Mobile is even more betterer!
    I discovered Turbo Mode!
    Oh yeah, mucho better.
I had known about it, but never got around to turning it on until last night.

Do you have Turbo Mode on, Justin?

I think so... let me check...

a minute or so later still booting opera Mobile. (yes it is the opera mobile version - not the mini)... Oops... program kicked out.. time to try getting it going again... Yup its on turbo. Maybe If I turn mobile view on. However, turning mobile view on might make the phone faster, but I don't want to mobile versions of the websites as many mobile sites just don't work correctly.

edit: Oh... another issue I am having with Opera Mobile... unless I zoom in to make a radio button fill the entire screen, it doesn't notice when I click on a radio button.

Actually... I love my Droid 2. I just don't like to use it as a phone or internet browsing. It is wonderful for listening to Rhapsody while using the Kindle app to read books. Oh, and it is goof for e-mail and makes a halfway decent flashlight.

hmmm, I'm not having any kind of major issues with my D2, except for the zoom in to click radio buttons, which I don't mind, since I'd rather make sure I click the right one anyway :)

Phone calls are good, web is what I expect from a phone, apps are good.

Speaking of apps, I need to play today's level of Angry Birds Christmas :D

Well phone calls are a problem with Verizon's less than cruddy phone service. "Can you hear me now?" maybe... but I couldn't understand a word you said.

Actually, now that I think about it, I have been having problems since the upgrade from the 2.2 that was on the phone to the new 2.2 that was pushed out last month. The phone now locks up occasionally and it won't always turn on or awaken from sleep. Other than that? I can't say the new "upgrade" did anything.

Speaking of Verizon crud.. Do you know of anyway to remove these pre-installed apps that are sucking up resources that will not delete through the manage apps menus?

wow, that's interesting, I always thought cell phone service was worst around this area, but I'm not having any problems right now, and in fact getting better reception and service in areas that my previous 2 phones didn't have a chance in.
    really intriguing.

as far as the pre-installed apps, the only thing I know you can do to remove those is to root the phone. I haven't done that yet, I tend to give products a long run as stock before I go messing with hacks, just in case I need the warranty or something :D
but I do plan on rooting my phone, primarily for the free wi-fi hotspot feature

Verizon service isn't bad if you are outside or in a major city. But when you are inside concrete buildings or between trees (which is where I am most of the time) it drops out almost completely. And yes, I am aware that concrete and trees will block all cell phone signals, but why do people on other networks open their phone and have weaker signal but still make and receive calls without issues. Other networks at least give the impression that as long as there is some signal, the phone works. Verizon in my experience is all or nothing. However, as verizon is the only provided where my parents and inlaws live, we need something that we can get service on when on the road.

I have been thinking about the rooting option. However, I don't feel the need to void warranties yet. With the service around here, sharing a 3G hotspot is a laughable matter. Besides, every gas station, fast food spot, book store, coffee shop, etc... has free wi-fi. If I really was worried about phone quality, I would just start using the phone for Skype calls. Hmmmmm... Maybe I should go look up my old Skype ID and get that set up before holiday traveling...

as far as service, that's what I experienced before, the normal interference stuff was a negative effect, but it's better with this Droid 2! This is really perplexing

We have a longstanding tradtion in our church, of handing out goodie sacks to everyone on the Sunday before Christmas. This morning we filled the sacks with fruit, crackers, and candy. In the morning we will hand them out. It is such a pleasure to see the little ones eyes so wide with joy.
    Merry Christmas

I almost hate getting a substantial sum of money as a gift. I never know what to spend it on, and so I end up hemming and hawing until something comes up that I have to spend it on, and so I don't get the enjoyment out of it.

I use Verizon, and in my experience those type of issues are more phone related than network. I've had one like what you're say, but I've been on my current phone for almost 3 years and no such issues.
