Didn't say earlier, but I'm staying home sick today. Been working at home, but only periodically so I can rest.

 

A) This is a pretty cool idea, I think I may modify for holding my phone and Zune. Maybe even have it modifiable for netbook/tablet use

How's my Wednesday, 2nd February?

Well, that is a good question.

It's a busy day today, mostly at work. Chinese (Lunar) New Year is around the corner hence there is a long 4-day Holiday coming up as of tomorrow. With the business being, well, busy, that means near back-to-back work sessions with the various teams, making sure all is set up and on cruise control over the holidays and finalizing a few outstanding issues. And as Murphy's Law has it, there are of course always last-minute emergencies or situations creeping up...

I think I need a coffee.....

Oh well, also this day will pass and ann will be well, as always. Just busier.

end of the day, day has gone off mostly well at work, then about 30 minutes till quittin' time, the calls start coming in: "can't get to gradebook!" "can't get to business application!" "can't get to internet!"

Check the usual culprits...not the switch that is common to be a problem at Elementary campus...hmm, that comm. light isn't going blinky-blinky....let's see, goes up to that switch there...*unplug-replug*
hmmm, still not working...guess I better check the tower

The one outside...

In the rapidly dropping temperature...

Started off the morning in/near the 50's, by 9 AM it was in the 30's. By this time wind chill was teetering on dipping into the teens...
30 MPH wind gusts...
some light snow flurries...
Me, in my normal short sleeve shirt...
Walking the 100+ yards outside to the tower (uphill, in the snow no less! at a school! :happy097)
Dang it! I don't have the keys to the locks on the tower with me!!
Back the 100+ yards, plus some, to my car, fumble around in my backpack, find the keys, walk back, unlock, no power.
....
flash forward to the end, battery backup is dead, so had to run everything straight from the outlet from a surge suppressor...did I mention having to wait for the wide-area network support guy to get to town to unlock the side of the tower I needed to get to because of all our towers, this one *had* a different lock than all the others on one side?

Yeah, Murphy's Law can kiss the North end of a South-bound mule....

Huh... some blizzard...

snow emergency in the 5 county area.. Everything closed and canceled....


for what? A little flurry, some wind, and a dusting of 1 inch of snow? You have got to be kidding me. We need to block all weather forcasts from administrators, councilmen, etc... so they stop making stupid knee jerk reactions to over dramatic reactionary weather reports..

Yes, I am sure that there were areas that were hit by the 2 feet of snow and had blizzard issues; however, just like every other storm that comes through this area, the storm gets close to the lakes, splits, and veers off. Ugh...

Soon the gentle flurry of "snowcopolapse 2011" is supposed to be over. Then we are going to be getting "Coldzilla 2011". Really????? Weather does not need to be dramatic. Weather is weather and whether or not you give it a fancy name, it is still going to be the same weather that we have had here for hundreds of years.

15-18 inches of snow on the ground, plus drifting, plus 25-40MPH winds today. Wind chill tonight in the -20s or -30s

Just went outside so I could scoop a little walkway and patch of area for my dog to do his business. He's capable of bounding through the deep stuff, but when he tries to go #2 his butt ends up getting pushed into the snow....and I feel bad. I wouldn't like a cold butt either!
