Be strong! After 10 years, I think you've got that down.

I have an uncle who still has the 1/2 empty bottle of whiskey they found in my grandfather's hand. He hasn't had a drink since he took that bottle. No AA, no rehab, just that reminder.

You know, the thing is, it was never really a problem. I mean, I went months without a drink, and I can count on 3 fingers the number of times I had "too much." Actually, they make for pretty good stories, but I never really drank to excess. I was very much just a social drinker; Maybe I'd have a beer with dinner now and again. But one morning (after a 2 month dry spell, no less), I woke up, and the first thought I had was "man, a cold beer sure would be good right now."

    That scared me.

    Haven't had a drink since.

The worst is when I eat at Outback. That Alice Springs Chicken just begs for a nice dark beer to wash it down.

The few times I've had "too much" were definitely social occasions where several of us were in the same state. That's been a grand total of three occasions. Typically I have 1-3 drinks around a meal or at the end of a long, stressful day and I don't want any more. Even then it's maybe once or twice a week average. I'll occasionally go without for a month or so without thinking about it. Of course that's when I'll get a strong craving for something particular.

I've been wondering if any company would ever think to do this. I really think it would sell well enough to justify it...sure, it probably would have sold better before the tablet market escalated, but I think it'll still do well

That's kind of like that archos 32 I posted about a few days ago. I wonder how a phoneless droid would do. I know I'd strongly consider buying one.

    In unrelated news, this:

yeah, it's basically a small tablet, like the ipod touch is to the iphone.

I think it would do well, really, if it's priced right.

the problem is that what you'd get wi-fi only android or apple device, basic web surfing, email, games, etc, the bigger tablet option is out now, so why would anyone get the 4 inch device when the 7 inch device (insert witty joke here) gives more screen real estate to those functions?

I still think it would sell well, especially for portability and function, but not as well as it would have.

Then again, I could be wrong...it's happened before

But why not take a droid phone and have all that AND the phone funtions? Why have 2 devices that are the 98% the same thing? I understand the role of the tablet, with the large screen, but this is just marketing stuff for people with GadgetAD.

For some, it's the convenience of a format that fits in your pocket, plus, the budget minded casual use market would probably enjoy it.

With ubiquitous free wifi increasingly becoming a possible reality, a device like this running a skype-like app could actually find a market. The ability to take advantage of free wifi without having to buy into a monthly contract probably has a lot of appeal for some folks. I know I'd consider it.

to fill the niche of people that either:

    A) don't want a smart phone, just a regular cell phone, but want the features separate, or on a pre-pay phone plan, don't want to pay for the data plan, but could use the features when in a wi-fi area
    B) already have a phone (either personal or business) and can't change contract
    C) maybe for the kids?

probably other reasons, those are just the ones that I could think of would affect me. When the first Palm smart phones came out, I thought they were very cool, but did NOT want my phone and PDA in the same device. If the PDA part fouls up, you're without the phone, and vice-versa.
And, I'm still kinda that way, I like separate devices for the most part, but smart phone tech has come a long way, so I figured what the heck.
But, depending on price, this may be something that interests me for my wife, or my kids.

Like I said, now that tablets are multiplying like bunnies, they may have missed the right timing for this device, but I'm sure there's a niche that it will fill for someone that doesn't want to carry a larger device everywhere

and that's a wrap....gotta take off early to take my wife to the doctor.

I haven't mentioned anything about it yet, but I do covet your prayers today.

    Latest million dollar idea:

We manufacture and sell digital countdown timers that zero out at 7 seconds instead of 0. We could sell them to super-villains and mad bombers. Think about it--the hero always defuses the bomb with 3, 2, or 1 second to spare. With a timer that actually goes off with 7 seconds showing, you'd blow his complacent butt to smithereens.

    Sometimes my genius scares me.

I am very seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on a pair of these:
[IMG]<---pic is full of linky goodness!

They would round out my Barbary pirate costume for renfaire nicely.

Anybody got a better suggestion in the same price range? I have to have either leather or cotton (or synthetic in a mesh--totally wrong for renfaire), fake leather won't work for walking around in all day--it makes my feet break out.

I suspect some of you might have some good sources for buying "kung-fu shoes." Got a better deal for me?

Today has been great. My wife and I are up in Port Townsend Washington for a low-budget get away for our 25th anniversary. We spent the day wandering around town and out to an old military gun battery called Fort Worden.

We did spend about two hours in an antique mall. I found a few nice straights, a Rolls Razor and a Gem in a wooden box but they wanted way to much of for all of them.

    Happy V-day everybody.
