I know... it's pretty amazing what you can do with that plug-in. I'm becoming obsessed with 3d-ifying pictures. What's really cool is that you can create your own depth maps to use with it. You can get some pretty convincing effects if you take your time.

This is kind of cool. It's like American Chopper for computer guys. Well... without the rampant swearing and childish fits, anyway.

    Okay, here's the need:

A system for playing music in the foyer. We want some flexibility between radio and canned music.

3 possible solutions. Which makes more sense to you?

    1. A stereo. Cost: Around $120 Pros: Easy to operate. Cons: Large footprint, ugly.

    2. A computer with a speaker mounted in the ceiling. Cost: Free Pros: We have everything on hand, it's as easy as using media player, can stream radio from internet, repurposable. Small footprint, mostly inconspicuous. Cons: If internet goes down, you have to switch to local playlist.

    3. An ipod and a dock. Cost: Around $300 Pros: Looks slick. Really small footprint. Pretty easy to operate. Cons: Have to install special software to load the ipod. Have to sync with pc everytime you want to change something. High "walk-off" potential.

Am I missing something here? #2 is clearly the best option, no?

I'm stuck on a 5 year old laptop with damaged usb ports and a shot battery, but we have money to spend on sh*t like this?

    Ugh.

    ahh.

Yeah, #2 is what I'd personally lean toward, almost 100%.

However, I'm betting, knowing who I know over there, the non-techie people are drooling over some kind of obnoxious "i" setup, no? :D

Seriously, #2 presents ease of control - from anywhere, basically; no increase chance of growing legs (no more than is already the case with desktop computers); wide variety of formats and sources, and much more flexibility; etc.

Seriously. If I wanted to get fancy with it, I could set up a simple streaming server and you could just have them upload whatever music they want to the darn thing. It's not like I'm talking about even putting linux on it... they could just use mediaplayer or something like 1by1 player.

Having an OK week. My old boss got really desperate and called me to help him do a sound system install at the Submarine base gym. I hesitated because I was not sure that I wanted to get involved with him again. However the need for green took over and I decided to give it a go. So far we have gotten along pretty good and he is not blaming me for all the mistakes he made in the bid. (always always underestimates labor) And the extra cash is helping to reduce a major amount of stress.

    Life is OK sometimes.

    How's Your Day? Mar 14 - Mar 20

Alright, Farkle-darnit, gettin' tired of all the "down" posts here lately.

I know things are tight, trials abound around us, natural disaster has stricken at immense proportions, gas prices are going up, food prices going up, taxes taking more, etc etc.

But, by-golly, are we going to be people pushed around by the winds of life, or are we going to be strong and adjust our sails to make those winds work for us?

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need a new binkie....

    Here...

EDIT: and, for the record, I've never tried squid, nor octopus, nor even shrimp (my dad's highly allergic, so I figure, why take the chance?)
