Hmmmmm... I found out this afternoon that I am not required to go to the board meeting. In fact, it was suggested that I don't go. If I go, then as department chair, I would be recognized when my department stuff comes up. That would open things up to questions and answers, dog and pony show stuff. If I am not there, things can pass through without a blurb.

    Interesting......

    cool.

I just shouted the phrase "S.O.B." out loud...really, really loud. Not the letters, the words. Loud. At work.

Out of character for me? Yeup.

    Context? Sure, here you go...

Got a lab I'm staying late to work on. Several problems, some updates, some not communicating with group policy, etc.
Main thing is setting up a new printer.

    Anyone familiar with Deep Freeze?
    It's a double-edged sword.

The cool part is, that while it's "frozen", no changes to the computer are permanent. Get a virus on the computer? Reboot. Gone.
Make a mistake during a session? Reboot.
Install a bad update/program/whatever. Reboot. Back to exactly the way it was before it was "frozen".

The bad? If you've got legit changes to make, updates, installs, etc, you've got to "thaw" the machine.
If you forget, all the work you just did is wiped away.

Fortunately, that wasn't the issue. I may forget about it when I go room to room, but in a lab, I almost never forget. So, I thawed all 24 computers in the lab.

Next, login to all 24 computers with administrator account. Tedious. And, my back is still hurting from Saturday. So, I've logged in to each machine twice now...48 logins. That's expected.

Go to each machine, drill down to the directory on the server to the printer installer (I'm not really a fan of Samsung printers installation procedure), start the installer on all 48 computers....

Lights flicker a little, then the power goes out....
    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr......

Okay, turn the computers back on, log back in, AGAIN...this makes 72 times to login, in case your counting.
Go back to the installer again (this makes 48 times starting the installer, add that to the 72 for individual trips to the machines).
Start the installer, choose the desired options - need to do advanced since I don't want all the software included to be installed, just the drivers (come on, Samsung, help me out here).

    Ahh, installation started.....

anyone care to guess what happens next?

If you guessed "freakin' power goes out again", raise your hand.

    :angry021

    Turn the machines back on...again.

Login, again, but only 5 machines at a time this time, just in case. Start the installer, again.

Anyone care to guess what happens after computer #5?

    Nothing

    #10?
    Nothing

    #16 (I'm getting braver)
    Nothing

    #24?
    Yeup, nothing again.

Get ready to turn DeepFreeze back on....freakin. power. out.

Didn't have the energy to shout it again.

    Uggh.

    All is done now, though.

    But that sucked.

    Completely, thoroughly, sucked.

Monday, I hate thee, and I hate thee doubly when thou dresseth as Tuesday, thou S.O.B.

    Wow

Yeah, DF can be a bear sometimes. So can power outages

  8. sol92258

sol92258 I have no earthly idea

yeah, DF is currently a "necessary evil"...hopefully I can convince the powers that be to let me do more lock-down on the GP end, but the killer feature with DF is still "Reboot, virus/malware/etc is gone" scenario.

And power outages really stink bad. Especially when it kicks A/C off to said lab, and it never comes back on while I'm there....

oh well, I'm better now, feel bad about my lack of self control in the moment, but home now about to down some grub

translator telephone + OOC thread = :happy102 OMG, I MIGHT DIE!!!

    The first entry:

"I'm actually looking at Bong's pens right now... guilt is an amazing motivator."

    becomes:

"Search Now Bong ink ... funny motivation to hunt."

    The second entry:

"I rinse my chubby really well & give it the big shakes too. I then "lather" it gently on a towel to get most of the moisture off it. I then put it in a stand."

    becomes:

"M'aclareixi very dense, very well. Bubbles and towel, and more than anything I'm just a bit here, so you can take a taxi .."

I watched Tron Legacy last night.

It was a solid movie, I thought. I liked how it handled Flynn's "idealist" nature, and thought the narrative was pretty good. I know it caught a lot of flack for being "slow" and lacking story, but I thought it held up pretty well to the original. It's going on my "to own" list.

OH man, that's funny stuff....how 'bout some STM quotes telephoned? :D

"Well, I'm not talking about the event Gominola. It will take some time to heal wounds"

"No. I don't talk about the jellybean incident. That's one wound that'll take too long to heal."

    "
Do not let the ducks. It is responsible. More swing."

    "
Don't leave the duck there. It's totally irresponsible. Put it on the swing, it'll have much more fun.

"Ass Bounce! Some courses! If you can not pirate, if you kiss the kids. I said. Building law."

"Butt cheeks ahoy! There she blows! You know, you can't be a pirate if you haven't got a beard. I said so. MY boat, MY rules."

Okay, really scratching my head on this one. It started off pretty hilarious, but then.....

    This:
"I'll have you, Blackbeard. And then I'll have your beard. Mmmm, I love stealing beards. Be the Pirate Beard of the Bearded Sea. Arrrgggh. And all of you follicly-challenged people can be on MY crew. And everyone with beards will quake with fear!"

    Turned to this:
"Well, I'm black, I had a beard, my beard kidnappers Arrrgggh Barbe .. and revolution, we as a team and เครา พร อม กบ ความ หวาด. กล ว ต ว สน breathing .. and still fly."

I wonder if anyone can guess this one:

"Relax and listen to Ship Harbour, a tropical story begins with a long history clearly. It is a big screen courage and confidence is the key. Five people on the street for three hours"
