Bad weather all over the state right now, a few tornados.. moving into my city in about an hour. Is it wrong that I grab all my shave gear and take it with me when I hide in the bathroom tub? ha!

One might question your priorities. However, that same one wouldn't be a member of TSD.

Hope everyone came through the storms just fine.

Well the storms turned out to be much ado about nothing here in my immediate area.. about 50mph wind gusts and 10 minutes of hard rain... I think we had 1 tornado in the state.. they are talking more later on today.. I haven't seen the South have this kind of weather pattern - month long of violent storms and tornados - ever.

Well, we survived here...and yes, I did give consideration to my shave gear if the sirens had gone off. Too bad our hall bathroom is too small....

I was thinking the same thing about mine too. :happy097

The more that I think about it, I am not sure that with all my shaving gear on an above head shelf, the bathroom may not be a very safe place in a tornado.

I think you might need a water and fire proof safe.

I am looking at making myself a set of dinner ware out of glass and have been testing different colors and color combinations. I'm a big fan of the fiesta ware and have been trying to come up with some good color combos. This one is tangerine and cherry. Not my favorite colors or combination, but I do see potential. I just make these trays as I can fit more then one in the kiln at a time and they are easy to see the contrast. What do you think?

Looks good to me. Would they be microwave safe?

Have you considered making glass DE blade hones? The vintage ones sell for ridiculous amounts of money on eBay so there seems to be a market for them.

    Me Gusta.

Do DE blade hones work at all on newer blades? I thought the materials on new blades were hard enough that stroking them wouldn't really make a difference. (OoC Thread freebie for you lot).

Depending on the size of the dish/plate etc, they are either 2 or 3 sheets of 4mm glass and are properly annealed on each firing. I don't think that the microwave or dishwasher would pose much trouble, but as a rule I probably wouldn't stick them in either. I have dropped them on my tile floor and not had them break.

I never gave much thought to making a DE blade hone from glass. Looking at the pic of yours, it looks like it would need to be cast from frit (glass powder). After making the mold it would probably take about 30 hours to fire and cool. Most of the stuff I have been doing is fusing which is done from sheet glass and a secondary firing to slump (shape the glass). The two separate firings take about 20 hours total.

God bless Gizchina. They have the neatest stuff on their site. At least they do if you're a dirtcheap knock-off sort of guy like myself.

There used to be a guy on some site that did a segment on dirt-cheap tech-- coby brand cd players and whatnot. I miss those segments with a passion.

Dale I think your glass work is simply incredible. It would certainly make some fine dinnerware!

How about a green/red combo for a Christmas set that was used for special occasions...meaning, Christmas of course!

Thank you. I have done a green and orange one in the past that turned out nicely. Even though these are translucent, the red is pretty dark and unless it on a white or very light background, it is hard to pick up the contrast between two darker color glasses. I'll see if I can dig a pic out to show you.

Cool I'll look forward to it. I can see what you're saying about how the red may be too dark to see clearly. Could you somehow fuse an orange with another color to come up with a redish tint? That may not be possible...that's just my creative mind speaking

    Interesting read....

I keep a magic 8-ball on my desk at work.

When someone needs assistance, I consult the 8-ball.

    It never lies.
