cool! I'm a fan of Joss Whedon!
I just wanted to share that I didn't get promoted today and its great news! Less money, more responsibility in a new (but older and more run down) DC (warehouse). I had regretted putting in for it and now I'm relieved!

Uh oh. Maybe you just think she got you one but really didn't? I can't be a scuttle buddy with myself!

No I definitely got one...she's terrible about keeping a secret. She's hinted to me about what she got me and it's obvious from the hints. I think the USPS tracking number is 'off' like they always are...tomorrow will be a good day. Hopefully she got me the 1.5 size...

Buffy Whedon fan, or Firefly/ everything else Whedon fan? I ask because I find Whedon fans tend to fall into those two categories.

now that's just cool. must cost a fortune to cool in the summer, though.

Definitely Firefly Whedon, I've watched it at least four times snd keep finding new reasons to love it. I never really watched Buffy, maybe one of these days I will, But I still have Galactica and Sarah Connor to make it through first. And of course the new Doctors Who. Good thing they're all available on Netflix.

I'd suggest you skip the Battlestar Galactica. I was a huge fan for the first 3 and a half seasons. It takes a nose-dive at the 3.5 mark and never recovers.

That nose-dive is severe enough that it mars everything that came before.

I've been very highly considering taking this up as form of extra income.
It worked for me in Jr High and High school. However, at the time whatever income came from it paid for the gas for the equipment and truck - which at the time was 25% of what it is now - and no other bills.
But then, all my other bills are basically covered, this could just provide that extra burst to pay some stuff off and get some darn good exercise in to boot :D

    Hmmmmmmm....

    It's worth it

We moved to a house in December where we are responsible for the lawn (rent) and didn't have a mower. SWMBO and I went to Home Depot and bought a nice Honda mower and figured I would mow a few lawns to help pay for the cost of the mower. In the few weeks I've been doing it, I've already got 4 regular clients and have made a few hundred bucks. Not bad for mowing in my spare time. The wife works retail on the weekends so she's never home...give me the chance to get out of the house (And off the computer!) and make some money instead of sitting around wasting away.

I have a truck so it's no big deal hauling the mower around. Grab my trimmer, a gas can, and off I go. It's actually quite enjoyable. I put an ad on Craigslist and have had good luck with that

    yeah, there's several adjustments I'd have to make...like get a gas weedeater...and a truck :D

I have a 24V Black and Decker weedeater that's perfect for my yard, usually I can finish trimming everything needed on the one charge, if not I have a second 24V battery that came with the hedge trimmer I got, and an old 18V from a now defunct drill/driver. But, even that wouldn't be enough for a full day of mowing, should it ever occur. My yard is kinda small, so a larger yard or more than 2 yards would be too much.

The biggest factor in me going for it is cost...cost of everything is going up, many folks are struggling, so in order for this to be worth it, I'd have to make enough money for it to cover fuel costs and be able to have a good chunk of spending money.

Gonna start putting out some feelers.

Another side benefit is it would be good to get my kiddos involved helping out, learning how to make some money, responsibility, etc., so I have all the reasons in the world to make it happen, just gotta make sure it's worth it in the long run.

Regarding the trimmer; I have an electric trimmer I plug into outlets in the garage or on the sides of houses. I REFUSE to fight with a gas trimmer. They are junk. They rarely work when you want them to, and even then, it's usually short-lived. I just let people know when I first talk with them that I have an electric trimmer and have them point out where you can plug in. I already about about 200 ft. in extension cords, so that can handle just about any yard...at least that I've encountered so far :)

If you don't have a truck, you can look into a pull-behind trailer. Or just buy a cheap pickup for a few hundred bucks and solely use it for mowing.

Yes, getting the kids involved would certainly make your job easier. No kids for me...I'm a one man crew...but being your own boss and not having anyone to look after is nice :) All the money is MINE!!!! MUWAHAHAHAHAHA:happy102

    yeah, that's why I have the battery-operated one :D
I've never had much sustainable luck with the gas ones....then again, we always got the cheapest/next to cheapest ones :ashamed001, whatever WalMart had.

A fellow at my church I would mow a few yards with in high school had a Stihl, and it never seemed to give him any problems, but they're pricey.

I paid more for the battery one because I didn't want to deal with the cord at home, but that is certainly a great idea.

My car should be fine, I only have a push mower at the moment (small yard, remember), and besides, sitting on a riding mower kinda cuts into the "burning calories" part of my plan ;)

I am really starting to think this is feasible, if I can get a good line-up of clients. There's currently 4 or 5 yard care businesses around, so I'd be competing with the full-time folks, but I know there are folks who just need simple, affordable mowing solution.....just gotta find them.

    Time to check facebook :D
