    Ok, update city:

I made a stop for the first time at the new pawn shop and got a copy Halo Reach for XBOX360. Loads of blow em up fun.

The reason I made this stop to begin with was to find where Jim had scored some new old razors. So, if that ain't it, Jim, where did you go?

Had a hard drive start loosing sectors. I just picked up a new one and I'm now running Ubuntu for the first time. It was easier than fighting with another Windows re-install on this machine. I'm not 100% I'll stick with it, but I'm certainly giving it a shot. Now to try and recover as much as I can from the old HD.

You remember the old Sleazy-mart across from the baptist church in downtown Queen City? Right next to it is a little building with a weird Mickey Mouse scooter toy on a sign post. They usually have some camouflage fatigues and post-hole diggers out front when they're open. It's on the main drag.

Thanks Micah! I just heard "Queen City" and my brain filled in the rest with what I wanted to hear, I guess.

    Now, back to Reach!

Sol, see if you can find a credit union that you can become a member of. There will be a lot less of the fees. Good fortune in your search.

As for insurance, keep looking, I dropped my old company and went with another when I found out I was paying a $1000 a year for less insurance than the new policy.

It almost doesn't pay to be an honest, hard working American anymore? Well look around and sadly enough we live in the same social and financial structure as the robber baron era of the 1870s!

This is a credit union we're talking about.

I think that's the problem with my desktop and the issues it's having

    A) Like Micah said, this is a credit union; and this is just the one my check goes to, my wife's check goes to the credit union I've been a member of for about 19 years now

    B) That's kinda what we're thinking

    C) pretty much what I meant

It's next to the bank where Dairy Queen used to be. Go like you're headed to Douglasville, and it's right there on the right, just past Exxon.

oh, okay, I know where that's at

in other news, BBQ University has been on CreateTV all day! WOooO!
Unfortunately, I've missed most of it (and the Daytona race...though after looking up the finish, I'm glad I missed it) due to diggin' and framin' in the back yard...just got out of the shower....man, it feels good.

I just had an idea, to grate a bar or MWF bath soap, add some menthol, and pack back together...man, sounds great in theory :D

I hear ya on that one. I usually like Daytona and was hoping to watch. Our town had their fireworks last night, and we walked in as the post race interviews were being wrapped up. Saw some of the "highlights" and not too upset not to catch it.

Gave up on Ubuntu. It was having all kinds of video conflicts that would totally lock up the machine. It looked great while it was working, but I spent a full day fighting it and I can't do that most days. On the laptop while installing service packs, then off to create an updated boot CD and install anti-virus and drivers. Why must this be so time consuming?!!

If you are having video issues, try Linux Mint.

Actually, to be honest, because I need Windows for some work programs, when I built my new desktop at home, I installed Windows first. I never bothered putting Ubuntu or Linux Mint on here because things are running well enough on Windows.

After you have all your drivers and Windows updates, don't forget to head on over to the Ninite website to save time on all your third party software installs.

Thanks, I'll definitely be using that site eventually. Unfortunately, not as soon as I'd like. I spend many hours getting an XP box running, just need to get the wireless drivers loaded and then install software. What happens next?

The MoBo goes out!!!!!! The hard drive was ~5 years old and the MoBo was ~3 years old, picked up during the Comp USA going out business sale really cheap. So, $180 order from OutletPC.com and I have parts on the way to replace everything I haven't in the last 3 years. Prices on what I'm after where even better than Newegg and online reviews of the site are very good, even though I'd never heard of it until today. I also went slightly above the bare minimum on cooling this time. In the past I've not put anything beyond the CPU fan in. Now I'm getting a high-speed CPU fan and a case fan. I don't do any high-end graphics or serious gaming so I expect this is more than adequate. Still trying to figure out how I got a new case, PS, MoBo, CPU, DVD drive, 2 GB RAM, and fans for that price without buying junk (IMHO I went for just one level above junk - what I find the best bang-for-the-buck).

    Today's been a pretty good day...until.

TWGW decided she wanted to watch Tangled, some animated Disney movie. Not exactly my cup of tea movie wise. Well, trying to be a good husband, I truck off to the RedBox and it ain't there. About an hour later found a copy (should have really checked the web before I left). She's now happy, and after cracking the cap on a Duck-Rabbit Barleywine Ale, I'm feeling much better too. Excellent brew! :D

Everything gets better with Barleywine. Not an everyday beer, but one of my favorite styles.
