  1. Not much. I was just feeling a little better so I busted out 500 push ups in an hour. Not bad for a 74 year old man.................

Of course, I have been doing push ups, pull ups, and sit ups every day for 50 years too.

  2. My goodness, I am tired just thinking about that.
  3. Are you guys really talking about hitting Bong? So, now we are doing Bong hits on TSD!!

  4. Just reading over the reviews of the Astra Platinums over on the razor forum. I know Dom likes these things, and is sending me some. One guy compared them to 7 o'clock yellows which is NOT a glowing endorsement IMO. Anybody else try them and what'd you think.
  5. Puff puff pass.....the bubbly:D

  6. Shep, I have used them all. No joke. There are not many blades I have not tried. The ASP's are in the league with Feathers in terms of sharpness, but way smoother. Have you ever used Gillette Platinums (Swedes)? They remind me alot of them, but they are alot cheaper!!

Overall, I think they are among the best out there, especially at the price point.
  7. I used 1, not stellar for me, Someone just sent me a box of 10 with a razor I just got so I will give them another spin soon.
  8. I have 98 out of the 100 I bought left. I got the Yellow 7 o'clocks and haven't had the desire to touch another Astra since
  9. I haven't tried them yet, either. They are on my list, and I may be getting a few to sample soon.

But it seems to me that they are becoming super popular.
  10. Rodd, do you want to sell me the 98 you have left?
  11. Something we may want to touch on too. The performance of any blade is effected by several variables. Number one is the particular razor you are using. Another one is the lather. We all know that certain chemicals in our products react in different ways to the particular steel/coatings of our choice of blade.

Before you give up on any certain blade, make sure to try it in different razors, and with different creams and soaps. You may just find out that a blade you did not care for ends up being a godsend with a particular combination.......................
  12. I can get one very good to good shave w/ almost any blade out there. There are a few exceptions (Dorco, Derby) of course, but I'm after more than one shave per. Ideally I think a blade should give two great shaves and one good one. For the most part I feel pretty good about the Red IP's but the third shave is usually pretty harsh. It is possible I will never find such a blade for me, but I want to at least try.

I've tried Feathers, 7 o'clock yellows and greens and several other varieties of Gillette. None of them did anything special for me after shave #1. Maybe I should give light stropping a try.
  13. Shep did you ever go back and try the feathers again? Might be worth another try now that you are used to the slant.
  14. I don't understand why you have such a hard time, Shep. I thought you had a rather light beard? I can usually get at least 3 shaves out of most blades.
  15. I am like Shep in this matter. Until I found Feathers I could only get 1 shave out of a blade. With feathers I get 2 great and 1 darn good. I then pitch the blade and load a fresh one.
  16. FYP

    ;)
  17. Man, I wish I could be like the play-doh dude...push down on the top of my head and my stubble grows out. I want to try so many things, or revisit/compare so many things. I hate having to wait...
  18. my post was a test that apparently all of you failed miserably. :rofl
  19. d'oh!

uh...we haven't made it there to tie you to the comfy chair? :D

    yeah, yeah...that's it
  20. If you guys are not stropping the blades before every use, you are throwing away perfectly great blades. I know guys who go more than a month between honings with thier straights. They just rotate razors, letting each one sit for at least a day in between uses, and they strop them before they use them. Never right after using it!!

Rotating the razors allows the metal to rest, I know it sounds crazy, but it is true.

DE blades are thin enough that the heat disappates and the metal rests alot faster, so no rotation is needed. But, stropping still a vital part of ensuring that you get the most out of your blades. They will be so much smoother, and last so much longer. I just changed out my blade after getting a dozen shaves with the same damn blade!! And only the very last one was a bit harsh.
