Yup... been there done that. Can't see something on B/S/T so sold on eBay... not long afterwards an almost identical razor was sold on B/S/T at a higher price than I couldn't sell it for.

    oh well...

Well.. just got home. OK, I have been home once or twice tonight but never long enough to sit down at the computer. Got a shipment of GEMS in that I am working on cleaning up. Looks like tomorrow I will try that open-comb micromatic.

Found some SE blades at local grocery store that say that are made in Korea. Does Dorco make SE blades too? Oh well at 5 blades for $1.65, I can try one...

Also picked up some Railbender Ale to try....

Good luck with that. Neither Bong nor I had very much luck with ours. I would recommend that you go slow, mind your pressure, and pay close attention to your angle, too. And plan on not shaving tomorrow to allow for healing time. :D

Were they in the shaving section? I don't know of any SE blades made in Korea that are of shaving quality. I found a plastic case of Hyde brand SE blades on my work bench the other day. I believe they were marked Made in Korea, too. Some research told me that they are meant for scraping paint, and in all probability came with my paint scraper. You really might want to consider finding a Walgreens, Rite Aid, or Family Dollar nearby and try to get some Gems, Treets, or PALs.

Also be aware that the construction grade blades are also often coated with oil to prevent rusting.

I regularly use open-comb razors and SE razors. I am hoping this is just a nice combination of the two. But I will go easy.

I am aware of hardware blades. I have been using Gem Blue Stars but they rust terribly. These were in the shaving area and the package reads..."Health Care Best Choice Brand Single Edge Utility Blades"

OK utility blades is bad wording... at this point I almost put them back down... but I continued to read...

"These single edge blades are made with high quality chrome steel and are made with the most advanced blade making process to provide a close, comfortable shave."

Justin, make sure to keep the face of the Micro flush against your face. I got didn't and I have roadrash on the one cheek I used it for.

I knew about the open comb, but wasn't aware of the SEs. I thought the new lot you just got was your first go with the SEs. It's definitely a combination of the two, whether "nice" is the correct descriptive word to use is up for debate. :D I eagerly await your review.

OK, nevermind then. Again, I was basing my comments on the thought that you hadn't done any SE shaving. My bad. Those sound interesting, I'd like to know how they do. Do they have a name at all? What was the grocery store?

If it goes well tomorrow, I'm going to blame it on the blade and search high and low until I can find them :D

OK, I probably over spoke in my last post. I suppose I am not regular SE user, but starting to use them more often. I get pretty good shaves off of my 1912 GEMs and 1914 ever-ready razors. I have not used a micromatic and this lot filled several holes in my SE craving. So the micromatic will be new. I suppose that seeing that this lot has a regular micromatic as well I should first use it before going open-comb.

The blades have absolutely nothing written on them at all. The package is Best Choice brand. However, that is just the brand this store has for some of their products. WiseWay is the grocery store. Many of the DE blades carried in stores around here are marked Made in Korea on the package and all look identical to ASR blades but with local store packaging. It wouldn't surprise me that I would find the same blades in other stores around here.

I will probably use a GEM Blue Star in the new GEMs to start with then try these blades. Otherwise I won't know if a crud shave is blade or razor that is to blame. But I will let you know results when I get to using it.

Hmmm... I should take that lot out of the barbicide now...

BTW: I like the Railbenders Ale. Not bad at all... may have to open another...

    Yep.

Never heard of that, I may have to check it out.... it's not an India Pale Ale by chance, is it? I can't stand those, no matter what brand I've had....

sure, rub it in guys.... and for some reason, I really feel like a cold one tonight...

That sounds about like me, except I only have the 1912 Gem with a travel handle and the MicroMatic. I've been able to get pretty good shaves lately with my 1912. The MicroMatic is nothing like the 1912s.

Never heard of WiseWay. Maybe I'll look them up and see if they're associated with any larger chains. I'll need to check my local Giant again, my wife has recently told me that they've started adding things like the oils I get for my OCM and Dr. Bronner's soaps and some similar type items. Maybe they're starting to expand their shaving items, too....The Best Choice brand seems to ring a bell, though....not quite sure where I may have run across that name. Walmart maybe?

I have seen it in a number of stores here.. Finally gave in and tried it. I am not a beer connoisseur so I couldn't give an accurate description. It is marketed as an "Scottish Style Ale - Deep Malt Flavor - Caramel Sweetness Lingering in a Soft Hop Flavor."

Yeah, I think I may have to try it. I'm certainly no connoisseur myself, although I do enjoy the nicer crafted type beers from time to time.
