Sometimes I need to check myself at the door. This morning my daughter got up early (strange) maybe she was just coming home? Well she offered to make hot chocolate and an English muffin for my wife and I. I had our electric fireplace on, she turned on the toaster oven and bam! A breaker popped!! Everything turned off... I know better......! when we use both the toaster oven and fireplace we pop a breaker. I wasn't dressed so my daughter went outside to switch the breakers off and on. Note to self. Check yourself before you open your mouth. The hot chocolate and muffins turned out wonderful, after a few tries everything came back on. And.. I can't believe this. My daughter is making dinner tonight.
I feel like a thief! Let me explain myself. Last night my Mom called me to say that she thought I had some of her groceries still in my car trunk. Sure enough, there they were, so we arranged that I would put them in my fridge overnight and return them today. Well, here I am, and my mom is still asleep! Boy will she be surprised when she cones down here! Thanks to her I can be creative while waiting, like be on TSD .
Another true, funny story: My sixth grade social studies teacher had a humorous event happen in her class awhile back, where after Christmas break, for busy work, she had the class write about their time out. She read several out loud after, and come to one that had said she had eaten some bacon pie at Christmas dinner. The teacher asked her "I've never heard of bacon pie, was it good? Sounds interesting, what is it?" Student replied "no, not BAY-cun, buh-CON pie, you know, from buh-CON trees" Hilarious to hear her tell the story. But still, sixth grade.... Second grade, I could let that go, but sixth grade.
Thanks, Mac'! We have had a fantastic weekend, my little family and I: baking the Norwegian equivalent of gingerbread (called pepperkaker - peppercakes), shopping for gifts - at our own pace in the midst of stressful people, stopping for hot chocolate and a bite, ... And my daughter has been so active and vital and present in it all, blabbering on about everything she sees. Truly a joy! (I know I will get stressed closer to Christmas, but for now? Mindfulness in practice
Bon appetit Do you usually replace dairy with coconut or do you vary? No dairy allergy anymore in our house, but my daughter's first year was a no-milk period, and we tried all sorts of milks and creams (wheat, rice, almond, ...) What I missed the most was butter, actually.
I'm lactose intolerant and the little enzyme pills don't help all that much. So, I just avoid dairy. If it's cooked in a cake, for instance, it's no problem tho. So, I really just avoid cream sauces, butter, and liquid dairy. In as much as I can, I replace real dairy with coconut milk or if I have to, lactase milk. The coconut cream was an experiment to get the creaminess without the calories and without dairy. Happily, it worked.
I went to the supermarket to pick up 3 items.. 10 more items later, I was done. Not a big deal, but I couldn't park right in front of th house (we do not have a garage or driveway) so I was about halfway down the block. This isn't far, but I am still unsure of what I can or can not carry. So I decided to see if I could manage the bags. If I couldn't, I was going to go the house & come back with a cart. But to my surprise, I was able to carry them all the way home.
That's a pleasant surprise, I must say. As we know there's a lot of arm-muscle work in archery(well, what I do I know, I haven't done it for 5 decades).
The caf at my Ala Mater was open from only 4:30-6 PM for dinner. To many of us, it meant we had to go somewhere for dinner before bedtime(if we did all our homework, that is).
I was reading about ghee the other day and apparently that was one of the upsides to it. People who are lactose intolerant can for the most part have it unless they're severely sensitive.
Hmmm... I'll have to look into that. thanks! Or maybe wifey wants something.... nudge nudge wink wink say no more say no more.
Ever notice how the only piece of software that ever "just works" every time is a computer virus? I mean, without fail, 100% of the time, those suckers will infect a pc instantly upon launch. Never so much as a "This program failed to launch" error. Every other program under the sun, though... And no, I didn't just get a virus, just a random think I thunk.
Yesterday I went to a premiere viewing of a six episode documentary series that will air weekly from this Monday on national TV in Norway. It features (and the idea was conceived by) a friend of mine who chose to live on the street in Oslo for 52 days Dec-Jan 2014-15, with nothing but one set of clothes, no money, but equipped with a camera. It is certainly skillfully edited in order to get emotions and tears rolling, but listening to him talk about it, watch clips and seeing the homeless people he met and befriended made me reevaluate things. For one, all the money I spend on shaving equipment, all the money that is spent on Christmas gifts, etc. and what matters in life: love, compassion, those close to you as well as those in other places and situations than you. I don't think that I should punish myself for being in an all-things-considered well off situation, but I might just keep this at heart as if not a resolution than at least a reflection for the coming year. And for this Christmas. I wish all good days and cheerful moments in the (holi)days to come.
Thanks for sharing this story and your ideas concerning the story! It gives me something to think about.
