I've had better days. They ended treatment and my work partner and good friend of the last 11 years is going into hospice care.

Every so often life hands you a 'what the.....' moment. My academic background is Archaeology which is the anthropology of dead people. Physical anthropology is the biologic study of our evolutionary ( I refute the word progress) change. I took the prerequisite classes in that last
and to be blunt watching nature films of baboons mooning each other and the professors arguing genetics predetermined everything bored me to tears. I was in the discussion session with a Teacher's Aid openly hitting on my gf at the time. We were discussing that sacred belief an opposable thumb coupled with an ever enlarging brain enabled complex tool use and behaviours. I was thinking what I wanted to do to his evolutionary advanced dentition when inspiration struck. I began arguing opposable thumbs were an evolutionary adaptation of bipedal hominids to make fists as WEAPONS and punch a sexual rival's lights out. He got the message before I was silenced with politically correct anthopological scripture led by a Svenska maid from Stockholm. She heard rumours I was a veteran and probably killed vietnamese babies. With that stunning academic argument I smiled and stopped debating.
So, today An old friend from my CALTRANS staff archaeologist days and fellow student at said session emailed a link to a dreary Journal of Physical Anthropology of recent edition. Ah, but that lithe svenska maid has gained wieght and a very manly short haircut. She must be under
that academic demon of pressure to publish, as her article postulated opposable thumbs as evolutionary adaptation for fighting.

So my one disappointment with the trip... no Dutch food. :( You'd think that staying at a Dutch hotel which boasts of its Dutch chefs would have at least something Dutch on the menu. But, no... aside from one night they offered as a special a feta cheese version of bitterballen (croquettes). Pass.

The menu at the hotel was thoroughly American and limited.... mostly burgers and very pricey steaks and very pricey seafood (which seemed counterintuitive). But, the food scene wasn't much better outside the hotel... some Caribbean items (which were a nice and spicy change) and a lot of burgers, fried foods, and American stuff.. Everything seemed to come with a side of fries. Seafood was definitely overpriced even at the beach bars. I mean... Caribbean fresh-caught lobster at $28/lb?! Seriously?! And Caribbean lobster isn't even that tasty (you need cold water for tasty shell fish).

However, the ribs and jerk chicken were quite tasty.

Today marks the 2 year anniversary of my mom's passing, I'll spend the day remembering my beautiful mom's life instead of her passing.
    Mom is home.

sol92258 I have no earthly idea

Just had an "informal meeting" with another school district's superintendent. Things look positive for this position.
My boss just took an IT Director position in a school district in the Houston area, and his replacement here recommended me for his previous position where he's coming from. Which is kind of funny, if this goes through, it'll be the second time I've replaced him at his position in a school district.
Lots to ponder and pray about this time, though.

Yes, if fact I did. :p

Hey, we're a smart people, you know! We keep the good food to ourselves and charge you too much for the rubbish we serve you. How else can we afford our own food? :D

    :sad024:

I was seriously hoping for at least stroopwafels at the breakfast buffet. But, no. :sad023: The only place I even saw them (packaged for duty free sales) was at the airport and who knows how long they had been sitting there waiting for someone to buy them.
