Another lovely day of outdoor archery. While there, I was chatting with a Dad & his young son. (I think the boy is about 11.) The boy was pleasant, but not exactly in his element. The dad made an interesting observation about how times have changed. He said that when he was a kid, if he was bad, he would get punished by being told to stay inside. Now, if his son misbehaves, he considers it a punishment to be told to go outside.
When my 11 year old grandson visits, I darn near need to bribe him to go outside and play. Every other word is xbox, ps3 or whatever it's called. My 4 year old grandson hops the fence.
Yesterday I twisted my already damaged right knee. I think I pulled something. I'll go in for an X-ray and see what it shows.
My youngest son is going out for the middle school cross country team. He and I went for a quick 1 mile run this morning. Both of us need to get in better shape. But, I wouldn't exchange this opportunity for anything else in the world. He turns 11 this week and I fear the days of legos aren't as long for the world as they have been. First sports, then girls, then... (don't want him to grow up too fast)
Today is the final day of prep and set-up for a large event the church is hosting tomorrow evening. It is a community outreach in which 100 families host a table and invite neighbors, friends, co-workers for an evening barbecue dinner, fun with the jumpy houses, dunk tank, petting zoo, and finally an outdoor movie 'under the stars' with freshly-made popcorn. Its supposed to be up to 97°F tomorrow so it'll be a warm one. Expecting about 1000 folks for dinner. Plenty of work still to be done beforehand, and staff will probably work all day today and finish late tomorrow evening... Photo from last year's event just prior to opening:
We need a new How's Your Day thread. I'm currently sitting outside listening to some unknown critter trying to um... swoon another. Leif just went back to sleep and let's see if I can get at least two hours in before he wakes back up.
Watched a man die, today. On vacation with the wife's family and we were at a swimming hole when a man had a heart attack and drowned. I hate that the kids had to see that.
