I got an assortment of small things done today- reconciled the checking statement, called my health insurers to deal with a mistake (which appears t be corrected now), went for a short swim & got back home just as it began to rain.
Send some this way, Sara. We're all dried up. Quiet day. Got some goodies in the mail, had a cup of coffee, and waiting for the sun to sink a bit before mowing the yard.
A new "smart" thermostat is being installed in my home, as I write this. It is being done courtesy of my local power company. More about this once it''s set up & I know how to use all of its features.
I just made my first batch (ever) of Israeli couscous. Cooked in veggie broth and finished with dried cranberries, lemon (juice & zest), olive oil, cilantro, and red onion. (to be served as a cold side dish)
Couldn't sleep all night because of the coup in Turkey. Heard f16 and cobra choppers flights from time to time till dawn. It looks like it's over but I'm not sure..
Yesterday, actually... I've had to pull a couple of older laptops out of storage to supplement a project which is short on funding for new hardware. A couple of these tended to be a bit unstable until I partially tore them down, cleaned out the fans and heatsinks, and repasted the heatsinks. The other day, I remembered another one which had some kind of heat-related video issue the last time I saw it. Did the same deal with the fans, heatsinks, etc. and proceeded to set it up with a clean Windows 7 install. Since it had had video issue, I thought it might be a good idea to run a stress test on the GPU. That ran for about 10 seconds before the screen went black (its usual failure mode), so I held down the power button to force it to turn off. I waited a bit and pressed the power button again only to have it shut off after a few seconds. I hit the button one more time and hear this "Pffft" sound, only to realize that I have let out the magic smoke. Not the thing you want to happen...
Taking the kids and some friends to go see a DCI competition today. Weather is nice, so it should be fun. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
It's safe and sound now, thanks. Coup attempt has failed, most of the military personel who involved has been surrendered or captured by police force.
Enjoy! We're taking a big group (65 students and parents) at the end of the month to the Atlanta show.
Totally forgot to mention: last Wednesday we (SWMBO, our two children and me) celebrated our 25th marriage anniversary ("our" = SWMBO & me ). We just went to a small Thai restaurant in the nearby town of Zierikzee. It all tasted great and we had a very enjoyable evening. The restaurant was a discovery which we will visit again!
