No kidding. If I thought it would do any good, I'd talk to him, myself. As it is, she's asked (and wisely so) that we pray that his heart be softened. Well, let's see, believe it or not, there's not a whole lot to report... ER again last night at around 9:00, got home around 2:00 AM. They gave her some different meds and a couple of breathing treatments, and she seems to be doing a lot better as a result. That's a good thing. Oh, and then there's this: She apparently thinks pretty highly of us, because she dropped a major bomb on my wife last night. Her recent health complications have put her in a contemplative mood, and she decided that the best people to take care of her children in the event of her demise would be us, and would we consider doing it? Oh crap. We love her kids, and would certainly take care of them if it fell upon us to do so, but crap that's a scary idea. I'm kind of freaked out by the idea.
For such a small school, we have the longest awards ceremonies ever. I guess I should be thankful that when they called out the names of the entire High School "A honor roll", at least the 2 names they called were Valedictorian and Salutatorien... boy would that have been an embarrassment, otherwise!
Speaking of Awards Ceremony.... Tonight is one of the biggest nights of the year at work. We have a 3 hour live broadcast of the Freddy Awards. It is a Tony style award show celebrating high school theater in our region encompassing over 30 different high schools. It is a great program, but means a long day for me (7:30am until roughly midnight). http://freddyawards.org/ http://www.wfmz.com/ - to stream at 7pm est.
Cool! I'll be working the sound for our celebration of mediocrity known as "the annual sports banquet." I don't know how our coaches maintain a straight face while they hand out MVP awards to players on teams that win an average of 1 out 8 games.
Waiting for a phone call that could affect my career, and possibly open the door for my wife and I to finally return to our home state.
Thanks. The call was not quite as fruitful as I had hoped, but I did receive some encouragement. So that's good.
Last full day of classes for the year. Finals and State FFA Convention next week. Ready for summer break - not that an ag teacher gets a summer break.
"A lot of people don't realize how much work goes on behind the scenes at these games. I want to take a moment to thank the people who work behind the scenes... the scorekeeper... the person who files the paperwork... the softball coach's husband... this bossy lady who tells everybody how to run everything always gives me great advice... aaaaaaand.... thank you and goodnight!" story of my life. Oh well, I did get a free meal. And they did pay me for announcing the games, so I guess I can't be too mad.
I had my students do a lab, in which they each made a rolled-beeswax candle. The purpose is to teach them about renewable resources, indoor air quality and reducing packaging waste. They each get to keep the candle they make. They loved it!!
