Games canceled due to rain? Man, when I was a kid, those games in the mud and rain were the most fun!

Now they are considered potential lawsuits and unfair to the children. :(

"Unfair to the children." My, how things have changed.

Now it doesn't matter what grade your coming out of, every class has a graduation ceremony. I had one - after my Sr. year in High School.

As mentioned, weather didn't stop the football games. Play on!!

I coached T-Ball some 25 years ago. Had about 12-15 kids on the team. The team at bat was limited to 5 runs or 3 outs, what ever came first. Then the other team was up to bat. Now every kid on the team bats before the other team comes up. No score is kept. They're not learning about what it means to play the game of baseball. "Every one wins!" hurumph!

AND...back in my day.... we graduated both High School and College in four year each. None of this extra senior year business. (Unless your college major required a 5th year.) We also learned that not everyone can be a winner every time. Accept both wins and defeats graciously and be a good sport. Graduation ceremonies were for celebrating/marking true milestones, not for expected accomplishments like attaining the next grade level. double harumph.

sol92258 I have no earthly idea

    Agreed, agreed, agreed, and agreed.

However, on the flip side, it wasn't just rain - it was the first rain, other than a brief sprinkle of about 0.00000001 centimeters one time - we've had in months. Good solid rain, lots of flooding. The soccer fields are still large puddles today, and the opponents' football stadium was basically inaccessible yesterday. So it wasn't about playing/not playing in the rain.
Since the soccer league isn't a "keeping record" kind of league (no playoffs, no first place/second place/etc), it doesn't matter much if they miss a game, technically. The kids would've loved it, but - most of the soccer coaches and organizers are moms - they see the potential laundry coming their way and said "no" :D

So... the local swim team wussed out too, then? :D

AND...back in my day... Moms loved to do laundry. Sure, they had to beat it all on a rock in the middle of a cold stream, but they loved it. Wrung the clothes out by hand and hung it in God's Own Sunshine to dry. None of this scented fluffing carp so junior can feel all snugly.

    OK.... maybe not so much...

Erik Redd Lizabeth, baby, I'm comin' to join ya.

And I had to walk 2 miles to school in the snow in my bare feet, because my shoes had to last all year and I couldn't put them on until I got to school. :angry017:

I remember what it was like before feet were invented. They were a great improvement over flippers.

Unless it's a forest with a huge ice cold lake in the middle of it, I'm really not interested anyhow.

You would be, if you realized it was a walrus-free zone.

It's a lovely day here. I'm going to make a batch of scented candles, as thank-you gifts for the physical therapy staff that is treating my knee.

It's going to be a great day here too. Had a lot of rain the last couple of days but the front has moved thru and it's a bit drier and cooler. Still warm enough for shorts and tee shirts, but cool by Houston standards.

Aunt is still in hospital, but she's improving. Awake and alert! She did have a seizure yesterday (she's epileptic), but all in all, she's improving, albeit slowly.

Didn't have a football game to announce on Saturday, so I got to sleep in and laze around. Put my state park pass to good use and went to the local state park and enjoyed the cool breeze coming off the lake. Also watched the new Star Trek movie yesterday. I think I liked it more than the first new one.
