How's your Day? - September 2013

Been planning for months to watch the second Longhorn game of the season and barbecue at a close friend's house after calling a highschool six-man football game. Several folks from Church, some hotdogs and hamburgers and a good ol' verbal reaming of Mac Brown's coaching foibles are the order of the day.

TWGW got a call this morning from her sister; Half the family is coming in to celebrate TWGW's mom's b-day, but if we can't make it, they aren't going to "cook burgers and stuff".

So, now I have to go sit in our sweltering deerstand of a pressbox for a few hours announcing a football game we'll likely lose, and then high-tail 2 hours to visit with TWGW's kin, which more or less translates to hiding out with the kids and watching them play xbox, while the adults gossip about school or whichever family members aren't there.

This has been kind of a cruddy week.

Less than a month to go before exercises start - and I got a nifty little order to redesign the redesigned network map. Fortunately I got assigned a few lackies to help out with it; but have to implement some things we've never tested - and it will be done in the field and need to be fully operational. Sometimes I just LOVE THE FUN OF THE ARMY!

If the internet crashes at any point between now and say....late November, please feel free to blame me, we may end up dividing by zero LOL.

 

Mandatory post from new desktop. Running Kubuntu 13. Not too many headaches other than finding a wifi adapter that works (finally done). The real fun starts probably tomorrow when I transfer over my old data and re-set up my apps.

Taking a day trip up to Allamuchy State Park with some friends, along with a picnic lunch with some chicken I grilled up yesterday.
Just something to do to get out of the house and into some nature without spending a ton of money.

 

Going to a pub crawl benefit today. It's going to be a long interesting day....stayed tuned for the u updates. LMAO!

The new wallpaper pro temp... unfortunately the SuperTux standing on rocks that I have on my netbook won't stretch nicely for the desktop and gets pixilated.

Early next week I am receiving an iPhone 5 from work. The perks are that I can cancel my Bell plan and save quite a bit on bills, and that I can use it as my personal cell phone if need be. The downside is it is an iPhone and I know nothing about them, as I have always used android. :S

I should also say that it should be good because there is a lot of financial management software that I could potentially use.

 

What netbook do you have? I'm currently installing Kali on my laptop but I'm thinking I want something slightly smaller for when I deploy to the field, but netbooks seem to be a dying breed

Luke - Don't worry the iphone is easy as pie. I've recently installed the iOS7 Beta on my device and it's going to be AWESOME, so don't get too attached to iOS6

Netbooks are indeed dying, which is a shame. I have the Asus Aspire One D270-1410 with the pain in the arse ATOM N2600 chip. (Pain in the arse b/c only very few versions of linux will run on it.)

 

There's a couple of ways to handle that. The image if it's on the small side, should be automatically filled in with a background color, usually black, but that can be adjusted. If for some reason the image isn't being filled, you can do the background layer manually in Gimp, save the file and etc...

Just got back today from our family vacation for a week in south wales, with the reality that I have one more day of leave before I have to be back at work, bummer.
