No issues here either, lost power for about five minutes. Lots of flooding in the area, but all in all, more hype than storm.
Not so bad after all, lots of rain, wind (so far) below hurricane levels. Still have power here. Better to be over-prepared than under-prepared, I guess. Only, when I tried to go in to work, the main road in was closed by a downed tree and power lines. Tried the back road, same thing. The only other way in is the river, and I don't have a boat. Called work, and there's a police officer stuck on the other side too. So the midnight shift guy will have early notification when the roads are cleared, and let me know. If he ends up staying to four, I offered to take the Monday midnight shift for him.
Good to read this didn't turn out to be the monster that was predicted, and our members that have checked in are doing ok. Bob, keep us up date on how things are working out back home please.
WoooHoooo, my wife and kids have power again! Hopefully everyone else fairs as good and has their power restored as quickly.
Well, it ain't over 'til it's over. Ended up being at work from noon Sunday to 2:30 PM Monday. Not that bad, as there was time to take a snooze in a spare office. Got home and still had power. Then power went down at 6:00 PM and may not be back for several days yet. Sending this from a park with my iPhone. Cold water shaving is okay but cold showers not so much. Still other people much worse off. Limited permanent property damage around here.
Just got power back this morning. The storm here really wasn't nearly as bad as other places, but nearly everyone lost power and obviously lots of downed trees, busted power lines, and flooded basements. I was just musing over some photos of some seriously damaged areas. Take a look, some of the images are intense http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/08/28/us/20110828-hurricane-irene-reader-photos.html#/all
This one just keeps on giving....NJ and VT are being flooded pretty bad. You Denizens in these areas please be safe and get the heck out if they tell you to evacuate. Be safe!
