    It smells like argan oil.

Yeah - I Coloniali is a great soap with a really unique scent. A little fruity, a little woody, some spices/incense ... I really don't know of any other scent I could to compare it to. My wife says it smells a little bit like a walk through the woods in fall (not sure whether or not that helps ;)). She likes it - says it's one of the best smelling soaps I have (though her new favorite is the La Toja). The lather is great and slick, it contains a bit of menthol, so there's a slight cooling effect to it.

For whatever reason the soap in the terracotta bowl is usually much harder than the refill puck that's sealed in a plastic bag. And when dry it can become a little bit more difficult to lather. But it softens up with frequent use. Just don't keep the container open and let it dry out after the shave, as you might do with other soaps. Some people say it helps to soak the lid in water from time to time. The soap just has to stay humid to perform best.

So I don't particularly recommend buying the soap with the bowl. I'm using a refill puck now that I pressed into a Ikea Grundtal tin.
