Oh, agreed, it's not for every application... yet. But, for what I need TUX fits the bill. Um.. no pun intended.:D

I went from DOS to Windows 3.1 fairly easily.

I'm fine with that. They could be overstating the case, but I'm going to play it safe and see how people say things go with 10 over the next several months.

I'm with you on sticking with 7. I rarely use my desktop computer, and it is working just fine.

All I have is this old Acer laptop which is doing fine...I use it for work so I can't afford anything to go wrong.

I also downloaded the 98 startup tune and loaded it in 7. My wife looks at me like I'm an idiot. I don't contest it.

You might as well. It is the future of Windows - much more cloud oriented than past Windows releases. Microsoft as a company is plunging into the cloud pool with both feet. Better to learn the new Windows paradigm early on to get experience with it. It is part of a push to get a consistent user interface across smartphone, tablet and notebook/desktop devices, as Apple and Google have already done. You might want to read this article, though, and plug some of the privacy holes.

Yesterday, it only took about 4 minutes to get going. This morning, I decided that I would open the lid and walk away and let it get going at its own pace. Well, I opened the lid and right there was my login page. So, I logged in. And the next thing that popped up was my desktop with all the icons ready to go. That is a great improvement. None of the programs I was working on, but that was a good start. I clicked on Chrome and Live Mail and walked away. I did have to return and click on restore session for Chrome, but this was the best startup since I installed W10.

Well, my elation seems to be short lived. I don't know how to explain this morning. I just did an experiment. I made sure to save anything that was open. I closed the lid and waited about three or four minutes and opened it again. The computer had shut down. It was back to its old antics. I had to wait for it to start up. Then when I logged in, I had to wait for the desktop and other programs to load. Then I had to open the programs that I had been working on. That is why I leave it on all day and don't shut the lid until I go to bed. I guess one day Bill will get this thing fixed. One day. Probably just before Windows 11 comes out for free.
