    same here

I live in a rural area and have not seen a single shaving soap or DE razor blade at our Walmart. Maybe I'm not looking in the right aisle...

I'm cheap, I admit it. I love a bargain, and am inclined to be proud of saving money.

When I started with DE's, I hit the flea markets around me (North East PA) to find razors. I have purchased a Hoffritz slant, '56 red tip SS, black slim adjustable, an old, a new, and an ever-ready; and spent under $30. Granted, none of them are collector's items, but they all work just fine; and doing it that way let me try different razors to find what razors suited me. The only "expensive" razor was my son's gun metal Weishi.

Blades locally are not particularly cheap, and not nearly as good as a Derby or Astra; I actually will get a better deal going bulk on the internet with a better blade, so a sampler pack was a good investment.

I have the VDH shaving set (I had an instant-gratification moment with the first razor), and have no problems with either the soap or the brush. I did notice my boy's brush does shed, though.

I'm using generic witch-hazel, English Leather after-shave balm (came with the cologne for $5 at Wally-World), and plan on hitting the concoctions thread when that runs out. I also plan on playing around with some bee's wax for moustache-styling purposes.

If I spend, it will be for soaps and cologne (don't do anything crazy with oak leaves and acorn, JoAnna). Even there, I'm not sure how far I'll go.

walmart's stock varies a lot. stores in my area tend to have VDH soaps and Personna DE blades but there's always a chance they won't have it. I don't know why that is. so it could be that walmarts local to you just don't stock shaving soaps or DE blades. :(

yeah, buying bulk does get you a better quality blade at a better price. I wish I had the option to buy in bulk locally and avoid shipping fees.

    VIVA LA WILLIAMS...

I have noted the different wal mart stock.. the local one here just started stocking the vdh kit.. and does not sell Williams at all.. good thing the local grocer does:D

With the shipping, I can buy 100 Astra Superior Platinum blades for 2 cents less than if I had bought 100 wally world blades.

Walmarts vary in what they carry and also when. For a long time I could get Williams and VDH in lots of stores and then NOTHING. When I asked I was told that "we're not carrying that any more". Now some of the drug stores and also Walmart will have them.

I can't really call myself cheap, what with the ridiculous number of razors I own. Maybe if I'd stopped with one DE, one SE, and one injector, but no.

Local store brands are fine for injectors (CVS) and SE (Walgreens), but DE are only available in 10 packs that actually cost more per blade than getting 100 Sharks or Feathers online.

Cheap VdH boar brush is falling apart. The cheap Tweezerman badger is plenty good. But I have to admit giving in to curiosity and blowing $30 on a Vulfix badger brush.

Where I do save money is on soaps, not because I'm cheap, but because they just don't interest me so much that I have to buy everything out there. I stocked up on VdH and Williams once I realized how good they were for the money. I have samples of some others. I mostly use Williams, because it just works for me, but VdH is great too.

[Edit] By the way, Williams is available at my local CVS and one of the grocery stores. I stocked up a couple of bars at a time, and now have about a dozen. VdH is available on Amazon with free shipping.

I don't use aftershaves or colognes at all, not because I'm cheap, but because I've always hated them.

Now that I have a vast array of razors, an enormous stockpile of blades, a couple of back up brushes, and enough VdH and Williams soap to last me for a couple of years, there's no reason why I should spend anything on shaving gear in 2010. Not saying I won't, but I don't need to.:whacky011

You're lucky then. The Wally-World by me doesn't carry blades, and the Rite-Aid hit me for $5-$6 for a 10-pack.

I just got home from a trip to the local Dollar General.. they have DE blades (ASR made) for $1.00 a 10 pack.. I got a bunch of them stored up. They give me great shaves when I use the DE.. which is not often. Maybe they work so good for me because I mostly use open comb Razors with them.

Some of us furry critters could only dream of looking that good after our shave. Off to go use some Williams, witch hazel, and a cheap blade to see if it works.

You said that right.. but it is true the local rite aid does that here.. and I have tried the blades ....I see no difference from the dollar sto ones.

Sadly, the dollar stores around here charge that much for their Korean knock off of Personna blades. The only way to get cheap blades around here is to order..

Just remember low cost does not equal low quality this is not an area where you get what you pay for.
