Injector and SE Shaves

I'm not an AC blade fan but thought this hack was worth a try as I don't have much luck with the Personna pathology blades for the Durhams. '38 patent Durham safety razor, Schick Proline P notched to fit , with SIM card shim. Pretty good shave, I'd set less exposure in the future. Credit Josh aka Subie Shaves for the hack.

 

GEMonday, Aug 16th 2021

Razor: Gem Junior bar, Mfg 1907-11, excellent tame mid range, this is what folks used not to long ago, carefree shave this morning.
Blade: Gem Personna SS PTFE(1) Excellent blade, very sharp, great longevity, smooths out nicely + predictable.
Soap: Razorock XXX, nice scent, excellent lather qualities.
Brush: Yaqi 26mm red Zebra synthetic , excellent lather generator, heavenly cloud like soft tips, gentle scrub + great lather painter.
Pre shave: Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser + a dollop of clear Aloe Vera gel on the cleaned beard area.
Prep: Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups.
Post shave: Razorock XXX with witch Hazel + Nivea balm with HA.
Results: CCS,DFS,BBS + minor irritation + no weepers= Excellent shave with my Gem Jr bar with a coated Gem.

I put a pro-guard in one of mine once. ( the aluminum handled one can't remember what it is called) I didn't notch the blade though and it stuck out past the guard. So it was effectively a shavette with a safety razor handle. It shaved fantastic. I REALLY wish there were some good blades available for them. The other blade I've gotten half decent results with is a personna carpet cutter blade. They worked better than the pathology blades for me.

Really good when you find the tight blade for you in a Razor. Now 4 shaves in and cannot fault the Shaves I am getting with such ease.

 

I thought of looking for one of those once but can't stand the blades available for the Durham.. How do you do the hacks ? Is there a link to a tutorial somewhere ?

 

I used the circle punch I bought to modify Gibbs blades but I'm sure there are better tools. Josh used a small piece of a freezer bag as a shim, I used an old micro sim just to raise the blade a little and clamp tighter.

Sure. As Josh also noted, this is a fiddly hack, ie getting alignment and exposure where you want takes some messing around. Once set though it seems fine.

After using a Hawk V3-A plate yesterday I found The Enoch to be a bit more angle sensitive. The Shave though not bad took a little bit longer which was a bit frustrating.

 

@jaro I never did a hack on the blade. Just put it in and shaved with it as is with Way to much exposure. It was essentially a shavette with a safety razor handle.
@jmudrick has a much better idea there. I will definitely have to try it.
So Jmudrick is the circle punch specifically made for metal or did you just use a good quality paper hole punch?

Yaqi Sagrada Familia - OSP Sandalwood - 3D GEM 'Adjustable' B Plate - GEM Stainless Coated #2 - Blue Stratos A/S - Aloe Vera Gel

Lovely shave with Roger Quintero's brilliant adjustable design. The B plate is the mid aggressive plate which gave very relaxing and lovely smooth result.

 

Absolutely love my SE Adjustable by Roger, with the B guard too! I use the A guard on my head. Just a great design and tool!

 

Agreed. Now I'm anticipating Roger to release the file for the case.

I do not use the Tabac enough so this tub may well see me out . Provides an excellent lather if you use a dampened brush, made for a very pleasant Shave with a good close finish.
