For my good friend, the Be-Bopping Bird Man, a little razor pr0n.

First, my small collection of injectors.

And second, my current lineup of single edge razors.

  8. Hiya,

After trying most of the injector types in the distant past, I settled on the M type Schick adjustable as the best fit for me. Found some blades that work well after some trial and error, and that's the set up I use when the injector calls to me. This has been in my rotation for about 4 years or so.

I'll include a pic of the razor, along with some of the vintage blades used.

Heh, even though I don't use a regular SE razor, it doesn't mean I don't have a few laying around the arsenal. I'll include a picture of a kinda purty model that I have no desire to sample. Oh yeah, this one does use regular SE blades as well as the wedge type in the case.

You're right...He did make the magic happen and they are works of art...Really!!

Now how could $4 be better spent than that little treasure...I hope she givews you many great shaves, Tom.

The M's are one of mankind's greatest achievements, and you do have some wonderful blades to spoil yourself with...We maybe should do a week of injector shaves and you could do reviews of all those blades...:)

And that Star is more than kinda purdy...Come on you can tell us...I bet more than once you've thought of taken her out for a spin around your whiskers...:D

Anybody interested in a week of injector shaves, speak now and we'll go for it...

Who wants to do a week of injector shaves ??

I personally feel one coming on....I would like to see if it would be worth starting a New Thread for a week of Injector shaves and everyone could post their SoS posts there or here...
Let me see a show of hands...I might do one anyways....

Although I don't log my shaves as such, I keep track of how many shaves are on the blades currently in my razors. Based on that, I can say that at least my last 11 shaves have been with injectors, and probably the last few before that. Based on upcoming plans, there will probably be at least another 10 before I rotate in one of my SEs or DEs, or even take a rare cartridge shave. So yes, I'm in, sort of. Probably no SOTD posts, though.

One that's in my current back and forth schedule is a Gillette injector, which I'd previously dismissed as too mild. It's another that I've found to be greatly improved by using a twin injector blade, and I'm using it with the Gillette version. It's alternating with my E1 using a vintage Schick Plus Platinum single blade.

Sadly, no, just the PAL Injectomatic on the top row.

Tom...Great collection of injectors and SE's. I use my injector on a regular basis but have only used the Paul Revere over the past several months..gave the Grip to my son in law and my wife nabbed my back up Paul Revere. Doug

Here is my first injector. It's a Schick and from what I can figure it's a Type I1. Until my parents brought me this a couple days ago I had never seen an injector in person. I still have no idea how to clean it up and use it. The injector that is in the case has some old used blades in it but from what I can tell there are no unused blades in the injector. The razor does have a blade loaded into it but I can tell you that it's not coming anywhere close to my face.

Can some of you gents give me some tips on what to do with this razor from here? I'm fairly new to TWS (about 2 weeks now) and I currently shave with a Merkur 33C. My parents also gave me my grandfather's 1962 Ball End Gillette Tech which I've cleaned some already but have yet to try it out. With the Schick Injector though I feel like I'm lost.

Thanks for the help as always!

I've cleaned up several of them and they all turned out fine. Here is my method.

First thing to do is to very gently insert a disposable wooden skewer into the spot where the key goes in, all the way out the other side about an inch to open the head for blade removal. Then snap off the remainder of the skewer about an inch back and use that to push out the old blade. If you get one without a blade, I would still do this to open up the blade slot for cleaning.

Second, with the skewer still in place, put just enough water in a small pan to cover the blade area when you stand the razor in the water on its head. Then remove the razor and bring the water to a boil. Remove the pan from the heat and stand the razor head first (metal part only) in the pan and let it sit for about 15 minutes.

Third, remove the razor from the water and spray the head with a healthy dose of scrubbing bubbles, making sure to get it in where the blade goes and along the back where there is a gap from the skewer. Then go after it with a toothbrush making sure to get into the area where the blade goes and on the underside of the head. Rinse under hot water and repeat as necessary until you get all the gunk out. Spend extra time working the bristles into the blade gap to get it clean. This is the time to scrub the handle too.

Fourth, a final rinse, dry it off and carefully remove the skewer. I also dip the head of mine in rubbing alcohol at this point.

Insert new blade and enjoy! :)

Yeah Bill...Thats it...I never seem to catch you using Injectors but it looks like from this that you do have some injector love going on...:)
This is funny...The first time I bought the thin wooden "shish-ka-bab" skewers was to clean my injector years before I actually used them for cooking Shish...:happy102

And Brian, congratulations...That's a beautiful "I type". What a wonderful gift. I suspect you will be thanking your parents for many years to come...My personal favorite Injector is an I type...I'm looking forward to reading your SoS posts where you discover how great these shave...Wishing you many great shaves....

Just remember, even though these are very light, around 31g's, still don't use much pressure...The blades for these are sharp enough to give great effortless shaves...I used to use the two or three finger-tip grip at the end of the handle to avoid too much pressure till I got the "feel" for it...

Also, usually right before I change blades I spray the head with scrubbing bubbles and clean with a soft tooth brush, and rinse well...This keeps it like new...

Ok, so cleaning is a bit different but not too difficult. Now, what about blades? Do I buy SE blades and somehow put them into the injector? Do I have to find "new" injectors? Where can I find injector blades?

    Thanks again!
