And as a complete newbie to injector razors I certainly hope this thread gets its own subforum. As is, this thread is a bit overwhelming and disorganized for me to tackle all the new things I have to learn about these beauts!

How do these SEs compare to DEs? Do they shave different? Obviousy YMMV, but I'd love some thoughts on what others think.

First off, that's a very nice I1 you have there. As to blades, no you can't use SE blades in an injector, you have to buy injector blades that come in a dispenser like in your picture. The "key" that projects from the dispenser is inserted into the side of the head which opens the blade compartment and a new blade is injected by sliding the metal tab that's located on top of the dipenser. Below is a couple pictures I took awhile back to illustrate the process.

Blades can be bought online from Amazon, hocks.com, drugstore.com, Ted Pella and emsdiasum along with a couple others possibly. I have also found them in some independent drug and grocery stores.

A broad, general statement based on my experience is that most of my SE and injectors are more efficient than most of my DE's. I prefer using an SE or injector over a DE so much that I very seldom use any of my DE's any more.

With the bottom of the razor facing you the key is injected into the right side, it's marked with "insert key here". The key should be fully inserted as in the last picture, here it's about halfway in.

The tab on top of the dispenser is then slid towards the razor which inserts the blade into the razor. Be careful that the edge of the blade doesn't drag across the blade stopes because that will ruin the blade edge. In this picture the blade is about halfway inserted.

Tom already answered you perfectly...Those On-line Schick injectors are great.
Most of the Drug Store brands like CVS and Long's Drugs etc etc and the EMS and Ted Pella blades are all rebranded Personnas...The reason thats a good thing is because the Personnas are great blades...If not the best injector blade they are a great blade easily as good as my favorite DE blades...And if you buy from EMS the price is very reasonable. I'm including the contact info for EMS. I ordered some not long ago and did it by phone and got the blades in record time...There are 20 blades in a dispenser.

    EMS.. www.emsdiasum.com
71990 Injector Blade in a Dispenser each 4.50
    71991 Injector Blade in a Dispenser 10/lot 42.00
    Tel: 215-412-8400
Thats all the info...and I ordered some not long ago and got them in like 3 days...

Well, I bought a pack of .009 blades at Ace Hardware. They can't be any worse than the grocery store Smart Brand of rebranded Dorco blades... right?

And I still have at least 150 pella blades, so I don't need an intervention. I just saw the pack staring at me while I was looking for 600 grit wet/dry paper. So, what else could I do?

I'm with you....Whenever injector blades are staring at me, I have nothing to do but give in...

When you shave with the Injector, one of the things that makes it so easy is you don't have to worry about keeping the right angle like with a DE. You just put the razor flat on your face and shave. The angle is built in. But the razor is so light that you must remember not to use pressure or it will remind you there is a blade in it.

Tom walked you through the blade changing procedure...But I would like to add, if you are using the plastic and metal injectors from Personna...Example EMS or Ted Pella. or CVS etc...These plastic injectors have their own etiquette. When you stick the key into the side of the razor, hold the injector with your thumb on top and your fingers on the bottom to keep the metal top from coming off...Then rack the slide back and when you go to rack it forward to put the new blade in do so slowly and gently. If it doesn't want to go don't force it. Just lift the back of the injector a lttle and keep pushing the slide. When its lined up the slide will go forward easily and the blade slides right in. Once you know how your razor lines up with the injector, then its very easy and simple. Just at first be gentle and don't force it. When it's lined up it is easy. And hold the metal top down with thumb while supporting the bottom with fingers. Like this it will never come apart...

It sounds complicated but its not...You just want to make sure its lined up. And you hold the injector top to the plastic bottom...Some people have tried to force them and not hold them together and they fell apart dumping blades on the floor...Started a bad rep. But it really is easy once you know how it fits...The metal Schick Injectors you just stick in and rack the slide. They have the perfect fit built in. But the Plastic ones are really no problem if you are gentle.

And believe me you are in for a treat...These things shave like heaven..

Unfortunately I won't be ready to participate in "Injector Week" this quickly. However, I'm very excited to clean up this I1 after reading everyone's helpful replies. I'll have to start looking for some injector blades next time I hit the drugstores so that I can be ready to try this razor out.

Thanks again gentlemen for all of your help and welcoming me to my new addiction!

I don't see anything on that website about injector blades. It's mainly electron microscopy stuff.

    Try this link: http://www.emsdiasum.com/microscopy/products/preparation/blades.aspx#71940

So, I went through 4 antique malls and 2 antique stores today. Everything having to do with wet-shaving had been cleared out. There was one injector.. for $75. I passed it on by. Oh well... nothing new for my hoard for injector week.

"71990 Injector Blade in a Dispenser each 4.50" - is that for a single blade, or is that for an injector cartridge with blades? If it's a cartridge with blades, then how many blades are in the injector?

I'm hoping I don't have to spend >$4/blade to try shaving with an injector. :shocked002

An injector for $75 ?? What did it belong to Cary Grant or something??
Nothing New? Don't worry...Your stable is always ready to show razor lovers a grand time..;) I've only got one injector and she a jealous little vixen, so I'm afraid to bring another injector in the house...You know the saying.."Hell hath no fury like a razor's scorn.." and I don't want to mess with these great shaves....:happy102...

So tell us...how was your "INJECTOR WEEK"....?

  20. HoosierTrooper

    HoosierTrooper Steve-less in Indiana

It was a very good week for me, I always enjoy using the injectors. If I may suggest that next time we do an injector week a seperate thread would be good, the injector shaves kind of got buried with the "other" shaves.

By the way did you see the thread about my $1 flea market Schick B1 my wife found?
