This is a fantastic little razor, well balanced, and skates across the skin mowing down all in its path.

    CWR
    Clubman Pinaud AS

My prep was just a cold water rinse. I used Clubman Classic Shave Cream as a pre-shave. It is an non-lathering SC, so I just applied a thin layer before face-lathering the Williams Mug Shave Soap with the Jayaruh #30 brush. I did two passes with the Razorock Black Hawk Razor with a Feather Professional SE blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Clubman Pinaud AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Not my favourite razor from this stable but with a fresh carbon blade it gives a very good shave indeed.

Ok, after 3, I'm out of the hunt. 1 appears mint, the other 2 are in excellent shape. I have a case and even a shipper. I'm letting one razor patina.

It's easy to pick up a dud when you're hunting these down, and it may not be apparent. Here are some tips I discovered to make your search go more smoothly.

    1. Unless you are able to inspect the razor in person and load a blade, try to avoid purchasing these without a blade already loaded. Sure it facilitates loading the next one, but the absence of a blade can obscure a sprung spring. Fixing this could prove difficult. I've seen some where some yahoo, tried to remove/load a blade without a key/injector cartridge. It appeared he used needle-nose pliers. Rendered it useless.

    2. Carefully inspect the blade stops. The Type F is notorious for being tricky to load. Over the life of the razor, if several attempts to load were made in which the blade brushed over the stops, these tiny protrusions can be either missing or worn down considerably. In the last pic, I removed the blade from one and took a picture of the blade stops to give you a better idea.

    3. Don't worry about a 'scuffed' bar. I passed on several before I realized it's by-design. It looks like someone took a wire brush to the bar, and in reality, that's probably what was done during manufacturing to add texturing. Appleby's Guide calls them "irregular striations".

Man....that 'L' type totally defines my youth! I haven't used one since the late '70's... How does it hold up?
I might need to cop one just to relive my youth! I used those in High School and all the years of touring with bands...I'd lose em...leave em at peoples houses, or hotels...and just grab another at a 7-11...}8^)) I must have blown through 20 or 30 of them back in the day!

I know they were consistant...I used them with Plus Plats or later Personna 74's.....To me that was just shaving and I never considered anything else......Til I fell ill with the unmentionable cart disease....whew! Took a few decades to get well from that plague....lol!!

After a blade malfunction yesterday, I resorted to rare use of another means to complete my Shave. Today, I made up for that by using a Type F, one of my favourites for the weekend. Spent some time on the Shave so got a good all round finish. Am beginning to think that the Japanese Schick is better suited to this Razor than the Proline, time will tell.
