Probably not completely out of question. Get it down to say $75 and I think it's a buy.

Probably worth $100 but I doubt I'd buy it at that price. FW's aren't great shavers for me and I'm a shaver, not a collector. I wouldn't be surprised if he could get at least $100 on eBay though.

Maybe if you explain that 2 dollars is 100% profit he might cut you a deal.

Many have called the 1912 style, the Greatest Razor Design ever and the Damaskeene the Greatest Version...Well I certainly cannot argue but....My Damaskeene is by far the mildest 1912 I have ever used, but surprising in how affective it is by how mild it feels. Next my post 1919, GEM 1912 is by far the most aggressive, almost harsh razor I own. Even more aggressive than my Micro-matics. Next would come my EverReady 1912 which was launched in 1930 and the Star 1912 which took over the 1912 production from EverReady about 3 years later. Both of these are not harsh at all. Very smooth in fact and very efficient. And unlike the Dammy, you can feel the razor blade's edge, which I love. Although it feels very polite and under control.

I love my Damaskeene because it was one of the Original 1912s, but if I had to pick one 1912 as my shaver for life....hmmm....it would be either the ER or Star....The shave I got today....well I've just never gotten a better, closer shave period.....This razor really is Perfect in every way...I would have to agree that maybe the 1912 design is the best ever....and by the time they hit the 1930s they had fine tuned and nailed exactly what "I" want from a razor. Nothing fancy or flashy...Just a beautiful old design that makes getting a perfect shave about as easy as it gets....:love055: YMMV

And that, ladies and gentlemen, sums up the 1912 perfectly!

  7. Saw one on ebay which makes me wonder two things, is it the same one or did someone come across a case of these somewhere? Where does the value in something like this lay? Movie/tv set for a store in the '50s? I guess at some point someone may decide to do some 20th century museums with outfitted stores like we have of previous centuries. Seems like once the razors are removed from the display it would lose it's charm.

This is interesting to me. I had always thought that the Damaskeene labeled ones were just done so to promote the use of the Damasekeene blades - and not that there is actually a design difference. Is there truly a difference in razor design 0r is this a placebo effect?

My damaskeene says Gem Cutlery instead of just Gem. I'm not sure if all damaskeene razors are older than normal gems or not. But the damaskeene seems to shave a little different for me than a regular 1912

The Damaskeene has a round head (some of them)and less blade exposure than the ER 1912.

After the 1919 merger ASR changed the name from GEM Cutlery to the GEM Safety Razor Corp and shortly thereafter dropped the ad/warning about using only GEM Damaskeene blades that was stamped inside the frame. I can definitely feel a difference in how the round ( convexly-concave according to the patent application) cover plate feels compared to the flat later design, although it may just be in my head.:ashamed001:

Thanks, good info. But how can something be convex and concave at the same time? Lol

Often wondered that myself. I guess it depends on whether you are looking at the outside or inside of the cover plate?

My Damaskeene actually lays the blades edge a tiny bit further back than my post 1919 GEM 1912...This makes it a touch less aggressive...And I prefer the Dammy to my post 1919 GEM for that reason. When Alan sent me the Post 1919 GEM he said "you need to keep 'Spike" here on a short leash because he'll bite! "...and he wasn't kiddin'.

My Star 1912 doesn't have the 'ears' at each end of the comb also...This make it easier to get really close to obsticals like ear lobes and noses....although with a little practice either one will become equally manueverable...

And without a doubt....the Dammy I do not feel the blades edge and it is so comfortable that you don't realize there is a blade in there....Where as with the later versions you do feel the blade's edge...which I think can help as extra "feedback"... Its subjective as to which you like better but I do see numerous differences...although they are all diffinitely 1912s...

I am assuming warehouse find. I was prowling ebay looking at Gems earlier today. Saw the duplicate complete display, saw a lot that included the same display, same condition, but only 5 razors. And a suspicious amount of NOS cased singles of the same razor. Somebody had to have found a case or two of these.

I have gone on a teeny bit of an injector bender this week. I couldn't help it... they are snazzy as heck, and shockingly cheap. And they take me back to my wet shaving roots, using my dad's Schick Adjustable. So my related question is this, blades, recommendations? New, old, foreign, domestic... pointers?
I realize it is YMMV for any blades, but I have not seen a guide breaking down the qualities of available injector blades. And as injector blades are sort of pricey compared to DE, any help is appreciated.

Chinese Schicks blades are very good quality. Shaves seem to last most people from 5 - 10 shaves. Available at Amazon and other web sites.
Personna blades are US made and are good quality. Shaves seem to last most people from 4 - 10 shaves. Available at Amazon and other web sites. Barber blades are rebadged Personnas.
Ted Pellas are rebranded Personnas and are available at Ted Pella Inc. but you generally will need to load an empty injector cartridge because the blades come without the injector cartridge because they are used in the lab test environment.

Cost of blades generally run from $0.70 / blade to $1.00 / blade.

Hey man....I second your devotion and emotion...};^)
Those Personnas that are rebranded as Ted Pellas and various drug stores like CVS etc. Are also made for EMS for medical purposes. The standart is high and the price is right, if if the dispensers are cheap plastic....Be careful not to break them and spill blades on the floor...The enclosed info will take care of contacting them. I'll enclose the product nos. And prices and phone no. I have found if you call the service is very fast...Good Luck,
Below is the EMS product discription, order no.'s and contact info.

Gary, they do sell the Personna blades in a dispenser, it's item 121-4 on THIS PAGE

The injector style blades they sell individually, item 121-19 are a different size than the standard injector blades so I'm not sure how well they would fit.

I have not been on Pella's site recently so thanks for the update. Now those are exactly the same case and quantity as the Barber blades I bought from Personna through Amazon.

They are pricey on Amazon, when I bought them they were cheaper than currently advertised.
