Hey....looks like it would make a great heirloom to me....Course everyone around here knows how 'Taken' I am with the whole 'I' series....And thats a beaut....};^) I also think of those Schick Plus Plats as the 'Gold Standard" against which all others are judged....

So how is this combo shaving?

I'll be interested to hear your opinions on the I-type. I have an I-1 and I-2, and they have become my preferred razors.

I see you; BJV; are a man of good taste, who likes to enjoy his morning shave den zen sessions in comfort and style....With yourchoices in blade holders I wholeheartedly concur, and wish you many great shaves....};^D

No question our beloved Col. Schick was a genius who invented a better mousetrap....And the good folks at Eversharp did nothing but keep the quality up there and bring their own improvements to his legacy while maintaining his original vision and integrity...

The I types were Eversharps first big change to the Original Injectors, and prove my case in point....A completely successful endeavor and just about perfect safety razor in every way...My I2 stands steadfast as my Highlander (there can be only one) razor, if I had to pick one....Although I do love my EverReadys 1914 & 1924's....But that Hydro-magic is perfection personified and so easy...

Thank you. I always preferred Schick Injectors while in the military, primarily using the Adjustable (which I now know as the M-1), which had just come out. I plan on acquiring one of those soon to join my Es and Is.

I dig the Adjustables aswell....Remember the one that had a switch that moved a piece to cover the blade to make it safe to throw into a shaving kit and not have the blade edge rubbing on stuff....I believe they called it the 'Protector'...I'd like to find one of those....

The availability of injector blades locally is virtually non-existent. I have a Schick magazine that I got while down in SC a couple of years ago, but I cannot find any Schicks locally. They are available online, but they are $6.99 plus shipping. That is over a dollar a blade. I found the Personna Mini Shaper Blades on Amazon. I got 20 for $8.78 with free shipping. That comes out to about 44 cents a blade. They are advertised as comfort coated.

They do not have the injector key, so I have carefully transferred about seven of them to the old Schick magazine. These should last me a good long time. I will give them a try in December since I am participating in the NOVember "No Variation" theme. I am looking forward to using my Schick M again.

I finally got one! I won a lot on eBay yesterday morning... it has a Schick Paul Revere and a Gillette Fat Boy - in gold! That makes it an Executive, correct? I have to check, I never had the Fat Boy at the top of my list, because I found a nice Slim early in my collecting.
But anyhow, yeah, great lot, just titled as 'vintage shaving lot' in the Mugs and Brushes category. I bid because I saw the schick in the picture, and only realized the Gillette was there after reading the description. I originally thought it was a fat handled tech... also in the lot are a Gillette travel razor, a tech, some brushes, blade holders and I think a Colgate puck. All for $40. I was terrified that my bid would be defeated during the last second, but no. It closed with just the one bid. I was overjoyed. It is a lot of work, but it pays to go through each and every assorted lot. I have gotten some of my best finds that way. Sorry, I am not trying to be a braggard, but my family is pretty sick of hearing the story.

So, on the subject of injectors... I now have around twenty or so Schick Eversharp razors. Several of them have been monogrammed. Mostly E type, but a couple later ones also. I have actually started to seek out the lettered handles. For some reason they speak to me. My question, is how was this service rendered? The letters are consistent, and definitely factory. Was this schick? Was it a retailer? Did you order them customized, or send them in for the service? Any one know offhand how this was done? I am going to have to start acquiring old magazines for the research value of the advertisements.

How well do vintage injector blades age? I have been tempted by some big lots featuring old injector cartridges, but as far as DE blades go, my luck with usable vintage blades has not been good... and this includes nos blades that are sealed, and appear perfect in every respect. I realize that injector blades are different than DE. Thicker, imho sharper, and more protected. Additionally, early schick advertising claims then to be encased in oil. If that is indeed true, that would prevent oxidation and thus keep them sharp. But it is an advertising claim, early razor blade advertising at that... probably not something that should be embraced as gospel truth.

These blades came with a vintage Injector I bought off eBay. The retail price on the package was $1.49 for 11 blades, so they've got to be quite old. They give excellent shaves.

The "later" vintage injector blades like the Schick Plus Platinum, Personna 74 and Gillette's are some of the best blades ever made. And yes, they did put oil on them, something Schick still does with their injector blades.

The "earlier" vintage carbon steel blades are usually pretty rough.

I haven't even gotten my shick injectors yet, and I am looking fondly at the GEMs. :signs002: As a newbee, which of the micromatics would be preferred? I thought I read that the bullets were the mildest, but I am not sure..... REALLY, just planning for future post wedding purchases:happy097:

To tell you the truth....Many say the Open Comb Micromatic is a beast....Don't buy it...The design of that razor is such, that it makes finding the perfect shaving angle easy. The first time I used one I got a perfect shave...Just remembered to use NO pressure and to lay the razor's head flat on my face and then lift it off a tad, and listen...With these "Listen To The Force"...

All that being said....I couldn't in good conscience recommend the OCMM or looking for the mildest micromatic as a good starting point...I think all micromatics have alot in common....but to 'cut to the chase'....

I'm recommending for you to start with the Micromatic Clog-pruf.... I love all the micromatics, but since you asked, and used the term, "newbee"...I think the Clog-pruf is one Perfect razor....They got it all right with this one....Perfect in every way, much like the Schick I2....And while I do think it shaves every bit as close and efficient as the OCMM, I also think it is very 'user friendly'....Just be cool...No pressure...Lay it flat on your face and lift it up a hair and listen....You're gonna love it!....Thats my bet....:)

Heres an addendum to my above post...
I just went and shaved with my Clog-pruf , and paid great attention for any details that I could relay on to you...

If I place the razor for a North-South stroke, directly in front of my ear. I laid the head flat on my face and lifted it off a tad, by lowering the handle...and I actually lowered the handle to the point where it pointed straight to the floor. So the hand was actually parallel with my cheek and the head was almost a 45% angle....This is where you just listen to the Clog-pruf and she'll tell you what to do...But just for fun I made strokes with the razor at every angle from flat on my face to a 45% angle and she behave in a very polite fashion...Always cutting whiskers and never biting....So this Clog-pruf is quite forgiving....As long as you listen and don't race or drive recklessly...I stand behind my suggestion of using the Clog-pruf as a starting micromatic..

I also, in the past when asked which Single Edge to start with, almost always suggest a 1912...I'm sure you will just have to get one sooner or later, soooo.....}8^).....you know.....after the wedding....

Design wise, I do think the Clog-pruf is my favorite Micro-matic, if I had to pick.....its about perfect....and I find myself using the word perfect about the I2 aswell

If I had to compare, apples to potatoes....and compare the I2 to the CPMM....Hmmm.
The CP can give you a BBS in 2 passes....but go slow and pay attention and she'll reward you with amazingly close shaves in a record amount of passes...
The I2 will take 3 passes with a touch up....but I have shaved in the dark with mine, when the lights went out...ha,ha
That I2 might be the only razor I would feel comfortable shaving with no light....That one is special that way...kinda bullet proof....I had to shave over a wound one time before getting stitches, and the Schick I2 was the only razor I would trust...and I did and it came through perfect...So in that respect I can't really compare the Schick-Eversharp Hydro-magic with any other razor....;)
