Schick E5v1, Personna blade, shave 6

    e5v1a.jpg e5v1b.jpg

Reason to call this an E5v1 is there are 2 distinct versions of the E5 as shown here.
    e5v1v2b.jpg
The one I am calling an E5v1 has the same lather guard as an E1 as seen below in the instruction sheet and the second a lather guard like an E2.
    e1e5instruction.jpg

The shave for this razor is smooth and close but it is not an E2 or even a Type D. My guess is this razor would be like an E1. Tomorrow the E2 and then the other E5 variant which should be the same as the E2 to compare.

Slowly adapting to a life where I have not to bear pressure on my injured leg. Good lady who has not driven for 3years because her knee acts quite badly to operating the clutch, took me out in the car and we purchased a shower chair. Back home I was able to do a bootless trip into the Shower. How one enjoys such simple pleasures when they are hard to come by.

Today I had another seated Shave at the Wash hand basin, having sited some dependable Shaving gear close to hand to make the operation as easy as possible. For me the ATT SE is a great tool and the Shave was very good, marred at the end by my clumsy moves around the chin where I got a weeper. I think a policy of Shower one day, Shave the next will see me through this inconvenience of wearing a boot and moving around on crutches.

My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Vintage Life Morning TOST face lathered well with Jayaruh #30 Brush. I did two passes and a cleanup with the J.A. Henckels Rapide Lather Catcher razor with a Henckels Wedge blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Pinaud Clubman AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Schick E2 w/movable spring, Personna blade, shave 7

This razor is by far the sharpest most blade feel of a safety razor I've ever used. It is almost like a shavette with training wheels. With that said I thought it would be going from memory a much closer shave than the razor I was comparing it against aka the E5v1 and it is only marginally better. Both are better than 95% of the razors I've used but they are not up there in the perfect BBS catagory. Up next is the E5v2 which should be the same razor as this one just with a different color handle.

Sunday shave, today it's going to be my all faithful Stick Schick marathon injector with a Twin blade still giving myself excellent shaves. I like the feel of the ball at the end combined with the longer handle that Schick seems to have incorporated the longer handles in the later models for what ever reason. Great shave is the bottom line!

Razor : Stick Schick injector L type theme series - MFG 1973
Blade : Schick Twin II injector (Japanese) (27)
    Soap : Italian Barber Amici
    Brush : Razorock Plissoft
Preshave : Brush wash the face with CerVe hand soap + a dollop of clear Aloe Vera gel on beard area.
Post shave : Dickinson's witch hazel
Post shave : Italian barber Amici + Nivea balm.
    Results : CCS,DFS,BBS + not irritation + no weepers = [IMG]

When I checked my razors I seem to have another varient not yet noted. I'm not sure how you would classify the middle razor as it also has the same lather guard as the E1. 20200104_233753~2.jpg

Had a great shave with the TNNSER 3D today using a 3rd use Gem SS blade. I used my 28mm SHD badger to whip up one of my Mer Shavings Fougere orange dunkeys milk soap to a great lather. This soap smells amazing and works great for me when lathered a bit wet.

I would opine it is the same as the E5v1. I will know for sure in a few days since I just bought one. I've never seen that razor or the E5v1 until about 2 weeks ago and never seen any mention of them elsewhere either. Just goes to show that there are still some injectors out there yet to be rediscovered. That and the E5v1 might 2 of the rarest injectors made by Schick the E1 is definitely more scarce but they produced them for at least a full year the E I am not sure if I want to call it an E1 or E2 pictured there and the E5v1 were produced maybe the first 6 months of 1937 before they switched to the more common E2 with movable spring a single lather guard channel.

I need to update this thread here to document that razor. I also still need to add the black handle Canadian Type G razors also which I found at least 2 variants out there.

Schick E5v2, Personna blade, shave 8
    E5v2a.jpg E5v2b.jpg

Just to recap this is why I am calling this a v2 because they made these razors with 2 distinct lather guard designs, that and for sure they shave differently. This one shaves exactly like the E2 w/movable spring and same style single channel lather guard.

Both E5 variants and an E2, v1 on the left, v2 in the middle and E2 on the right.

If you look carefully at the middle razor the lather channel is cut differently from the E1 and E5v1. Will it make it a different shaver is hard to tell but we can say for sure it was manufactured differently and can't be attributed to the E1. Only way to know for sure is to put it to the shave test.
