I meant to ask you Bob..Did you use those NOS Heljestrand blades straight from the box or did you Hone them first.:signs002:...I am using one from the box & its very sharp & smooth..I just gave it 100 laps a side to get it going...Its still going strong..:kar:

That's interesting because unless I am a Dutchman those are all G Types...The Butterscotch handle ones all have the seamed handle as far as I can tell..:p

I had hoped to be able to use them straight from the box, with nothing more than a good stropping. Alas, it was not to be. I tried it and the blade pulled and tugged, but did not cut. A look with the digital microscope revealed that despite the blades pristine appearance, the years had not been kind to the edge.

I have two lots of 5 blades, and they all look like this.

No worries - a little work with a DMT followed by several grades of lapping film, and I have a great edge.

I've shaved with this blade at least a dozen times since the honing, stropping around 60 laps before & after each use, and it is still going strong.

    Shave Den Sunday!!

    Prep: Warm water rinse
    Blade: Schick injector
    Razor: Schick Eversharp G-type injector
    Brush: Escali badger
    Lather: TSD lanolin bay rum
Post: Witch hazel splash, TSD Iced bay rum after shave, Nivea sensitive balm
WTG, XTG (neck and jaw only), touch-up

Received a big haul of TSD products yesterday. Wow!! This was a terrific shave! The bay rum soap is a heavy clove-influenced scent. It reminds me of the holidays. The lather is top-notch - exceptionally easy to load, rich, thick, cushioning - all the good stuff you're looking for. The Escali badger brush lost a good many hairs a couple of days ago but performed really well today. I had enough lather left over to do two or three more passes. The post shave feel after the cold water rinse was the best I've ever experienced. I am really pleased and impressed with the TSD soap!

The Schick razor was a gift to me and I've really enjoyed it. I will return to a Maggard DE tomorrow to begin a new focus, but the Eversharp will be close by and I'll use it off and on.

TSD's iced bay rum was a real treat. It stung a little bit at first and then the menthol kicked in and really cooled things off. I finished with Nivea balm.

All in all this was a terrific shave. I'm overly impressed with the quality of the TSD products! Now I see why so many of you sing their praises.

Have a great end to your weekend!

Today was my first ever SE shave
    [IMG]
Was working with this Ever Ready, definitely a great razor, but aggressive. Most aggressive razor I have ever used. Kept the angle as low as I possibly could. Never had a razor speak to me so much. Ended with a close two pass shave with only one nick which was on a jawline pimple

After so many great shaves I was wondering if the PAL Injecto Matic really is the best shave I can get. There was only one way to find out.

This afternoon's shave was a little handicapped in that I forgot to use PSO and ended up with a couple of tiny, tiny cuts as a result. But my face is super smooth and soft. Yes, those dolphins are jealous of my skin again. One outstanding shave. :happy036:

    Bio Palmyra Shave Cream
    Savile Row 3824
    PAL Injecto Matic
    NOS Schick Super Chromium (2)
    T&H Classic After Shave Balm

    PAL Injecto Matic.jpg

When the NOS Super Chromium blade is used up I'll be going back to a straight up Schick. YMMV but still the best match for this razor IMO.

    Happy shaving - Karl

    Shave Den Sunday

A new month is upon us and I'm doing another month-long focus. The February Focus begins a day early with my Schick Type D - The first Schick Injector Razor circa 1935

    Shave 1
    Hot Shower
    Razor: Schick Type D
    Blade: Schick (China) (1)
    Soap: TSD Unscented
    Brush: Rubberset 400-4
    TSD Witch Hazel
    TSD Aftershave Milk
    TSD Acqua Di Gio

    01-31-16.JPG

    3-day growth = 3-pass shave.

First shave with the D - a beautiful razor and a great shave.
First pass (WTG) seemed very efficient, so second pass went right to ATG and a very comfortable shave.

First impression - Oh my! I thought the last month with my C1 was fun...this razor was extremely easy to maneuver and settle in on the shave angle. Efficient, close and casual - casual because I immediately got the angle and it appeared to just flow across the face with minimal to no pressure and even provided a good ATG on upper chin and corners of my mouth where I hardly ever do ATG.

I think I’m going to enjoy this month, just as much as the last one.

    Cheers!

Rolls Viscount, Valobra Fougere applied w/Plisson synthetic brush, Grey Flannel AS & EdT.

I hadn't used a Rolls in a while, so I stropped up this Viscount today. It is one of the few razors capable of following yesterday's C. V. Heljestrand shave. Unlike the CVH, Rolls razor sets can usually be found at reasonable prices. The first shave with one of these can be somewhat intimidating - it really is a "straight on a stick."

I'll be using nothing but Schick Repeaters for the month of Febuary. I will start the week with the type A loaded with a Chick blade.

    After my First WTG Pass..:p
    [IMG] Todays Shave Set Up..:p
    [IMG] Three Shaving Pass Routine..

Hot Water prep & massage with Coconut Oil
    Toms V 2 Adjustable Injector
NOS Dutch Made Schick Chromium Blade New
    Kent BK2 Pure Badger Brush
    French Monsavon Bol Tallow Soap
    Thayers Original Witch Hazel

I has my first shave yesterday with Toms V 2 Injector..I loaded an NOS Dutch made Schick into Toms Injector..I had to transfer the blade into a Chinese Schick Magazine because the NOS one wouldn't fit...This is quite common because this magazine doesn't Fit some of my PAL & Personna Injectors either..The Chinese magazine fits perfectly & the blade loaded as easy as any other injector..Plenty of clearance to clear the stops..Smooth as Silk..I decided to Go with the NOTSO Comb which for the purpose's of this write up I will refer to it as the Middle Setting...The combs are very easily removed for adjusting this razor...I can see why Tom stuck with the thumb screw design..It works very well & even adds to the look of the razor...It doesn't get in the way in any shape or form..Its perfect in every way..:)

On my first ATG Pass the V 2 Injector on the middle setting as you can see from the pic above just about blew away 3 days worth of whiskers..I ended up with a mixed BBS/DFS Result..I was Gobsmacked to say the least..The angle of the V 2 Injector is somewhat closer to a Schick Repeater than a Schick Injector but not quite..I would say that the angle of the handle sits somewhere in between..This razor is very quiet indeed..Its about as quiet as the PAL Adjustable I reckon & this initially impressed me because I have found that the Injectors with least audible feedback are indeed the most efficient.. I knew I was in for one darn fine shave the second I touched my face with it..I could have walked away with a DFS after my first ATG Pass with a couple of touch ups..:D

The V 2 Injector gets under the nose with ease and shaves ATG on the top lip with ease..This injector is smoother than a Schick Type E 2 & the PAL Adjustable..It might even be smoother than the Schick Type D & believe me folks that's saying something ..The open comb design feels like a smooth comb..It slid over my face as smooth as icing on a cake..Its so smooth that you think its not doing anything.. The V2 Injector is almost Ghost Like..The shaving angle for a lot of folks I reckon might not be as intuitive as they are used to..I talk about the "Shy Girl"..This is a Listening mans Injector for sure..Like the PAL Adjustable its very subtle..It might even be more subtle than the PAL Adjustable..That said..Those Dutch Blades are quite subtle as well..I reckon it will be more intuitive with a Chinese Blade..Time will tell..:signs002:

Going ATG with this injector is just a pleasure..I would suggest that the V 2 is about as aggressive as the PAL Adjustable on the 3 Quarter setting or something like the Schick E 2..It will be interesting to see what its like with the WILD Comb & of course Twin Blades..The V 2 is as manoeuvrable as a Hoover..It almost feels like its Hoovering up your face..Its just so Darn Smooth..I ended up with an all over Dolphin Smooth BBS result..Toms Injector is as efficient as any injector in my collection and I have the best of them..It might even be the safest safety razor that I have used in my entire life..:love055:
