Herm, I'd be interested in trying the Pella blades. All I have tried at Chicks. The Chicks are really good but I wouldn't mind trying others.

Sounds good to me. We all know that YMMV really applies to blades. I've only used two. PM your address and I'll send them to you. It will be a week or so, I'm on vacation in FL starting tomorrow. Enjoy!

I don't read much into it. Even among the same brand blades there are differences - most of my NOS C. V. Heljestrand blades are 1.520" long, but a couple are only 1.495." The blade stops are wide enough that the shorter blade can be loaded without a problem.

In addition, the width of the blades will decrease with repeated honing and most razors using these blades have some means for compensating for that. Early razors had setscrews in the side holders for adjusting blade position, while later models have spring-loaded side holders combined with blade stops.

I like the setscrew models because they have the effect, intended or otherwise, of making the razor adjustable. On the other hand the spring-loaded/blade stop models can usually be loaded with a modern spined blade if desired (although to me that defeats the whole purpose of using these razors).

I think the early razor manufacturers intended the blades to be compatable, knowing that their brand of blade might not always be available. The exceptions (Wilkinson, Rolls) came later in the timeline and made their designs different enough that there was no possible way to use another brand of blade.

Of course this is all speculation - we'll likely never know for certain.

My Star has the spring loaded blade guides. I suspect I was pushing the edge of the blade along the base of the head when loading and dulled the blade as a result. It was a tight squeeze and I had to use some pressure to get it in.

The Heljestrand has a better design in that the blade guides can be lifted up completely and there is also nothing for a blade to touch between the spine and the edge - eliminating any chance of accidentally dulling anything however it is inserted. :happy088:

    Razor: Schick G1
    Blade: Schick injector (5)
Brush: WDC-8 Brass Handle TGN- Finest
    Soap: Route The Black Pearl
    A/S: Myrsol Blue

Same gear as yesterday. Wanted to make sure it was either a close BBS, or a BBS shave. Today it was a BBS shave for sure. The TGN Finest is a great knot, you wouldn't go wrong buying this Finest Badger knot. The Schick injector is an excellent shave tool. This is the 5th shave with this blade and is still performing great.
Route 66 The Black Pearl is another amazing shaving soap from Route 66. :happy096:
Myrsol Blue is also an outstanding A/S.

Maiden voyage with the type F for a TGIF shave. For some reason I was anticipating a more aggressive razor but this one is smooth and gentle with the Chick blade. This could lead to careless driving! Two passes and the results were great but I had more lather so I went around again. Excellent! This could qualify as the best injector ever.

Thanks! The only drawback is that it is a bit challenging to load. The blade wants to head toward the stops. So you need to go slow and sort of nudge it back with something until it is all the way in. I buggered the first blade.

    It’s Hydro-Magic May!
I’ll spend the month with my three Schick Eversharp razors that sport the Hydro-Magic shaving/cleansing head - Types I2, J3, K1

We interrupt our regularly scheduled program….again!

Leaving on a two-week business / pleasure trip on Saturday night. I plan to take two razors that I consider candidates to become my travel razor the Schicks C1 and H2!

Yesterday I tried a Personna blade in the H2, today I’ll go for broke on Friday the 13th and try a Fergie-Feather (a Feather AC Pro blade cut down to fit an injector).

    Hot Shower
    Razor: 1947-1953 (Schick) Eversharp H2
    Blade: FergieFeather (1)
Soap: Route 66 - Sweeney Todd
    Brush: Stirling Kong synthetic
    TSD Witch Hazel
    AS: TSD Yin Yang

    05-13-16.JPG

    One-pass shave (XTG, ATG)
Closer and smoother with this blade compared to yesterdays’ Personna.
This set-up will make the trip!

    So it’s the H2/FergieFeather and the C1/Personna*74.
    :transport022: All aboard!

Will post during the week when I can. Have a great 10 days brothers!

    Cheers!

Right! That was exactly my reaction to my first F shave - did I put a blade in here?!!
...and I just started zipping around my face. Wait 'til you get a FergieFeather in there!

Shave 5 with the Henckels Rapide. Another fantastic 3 pass shave today. Light touch is in order for this razor for me. The third pass almost tickles when making the pass. I have not had this sensation before using a wedge. I will keep on Rollin' with this setup for a while.
