Thanks for the advice....I think you are spot on....
Some of my Str8 friends said they could hone them but that would make them shorter.....ha,ha.....I would need a Hill Fergie Shim for my Damaskeene blades....lol!

This morning's shave was an absolute delight! This morning was a Schick shave...always a nice way to greet the day. I am thinking I may scrap the alternating days with my DE and SE. I am just enjoying the Schick so much I want to have that perfect shave every day. I think starting tomorrow I will only use my DE "every once in a while". Yes, I will experience bouts of guilt and my DEs will certainly give me a hard stare when I open my razor drawer...but, in the words of Winston Churchill, "Damn the torpedoes...full speed ahead!" I may even introduce a new soap into my rotation of Cella and Haslinger Schafmilch!

    Pre: Noxema Classic preshave
    Razor: Schick Type G
    Brush: Simpsons Special
    Soap: Cella

    Prep: Warm shower
    Blade: GEM Stainless PTFE
    Razor: GEM Featherweight
    Brush: Omega 10049 boar
    Lather: VDH Luxury
Post: Witch hazel splash, Florida Water, Nivea sensitive balm
    WTG, XTG

Nice, enjoyable shave with the GEM Featherweight. I'm really enjoying my SE focus this month. I've also figured out some secret with VDH. The enormous boar whips up beautiful, thick, yogurty lather. I load for a long time and incorporate a good amount of water. It's becoming a really good soap for me.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday!

On the pleasure end of a two-week business / pleasure trip.
Alternating between two Schick two razors:
    C1 (Personna *74)
    H2 (FergieFeather)

Nearly 40 years ago my folks retired to a rustic beach house on a quiet island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

One of my favorite aspects is their outdoor shower where I also shave when visiting.

    [IMG][IMG]

3-day growth (I'm on island time) 3-pass shave (WTG, XTG, ATG)
    Razor: Schick Repeater C1
    Blade: Personna *74 (5)
    Soap: Stirling "Island Man"
    Brush: Rubberset 300N 'Plastiset' Nylon
    TSD Witch Hazel
    AS: Stirling "Island Man"

    What an excellent shave!
The C1 and Personna 74 just clear-cut so completely through the old growth on the first pass that I just went right to the last pass ATG. The Personna is just as sharp as ever and maybe smoother than after its 1st use. The tallow-based Stirling was so slick the C1 just sailed on the ocean breeze like a schooner through a glassy sea.

    Cheers!

Very enjoyable and close shave tonight with the Schick G1. The razor brush, soap, and After shave made for close to BBS.
Was able to take the G1 apart for cleaning which was easy enough. Have a good night and a great weekend fellow shavers. :happy088:

    Today's Shave: Saturday May 21, 2016

    E.S.F Rapide
    Rapide wedge blade (4)
    The Grooming Co. synthetic brush
    Stirling Electric Sheep soap
    Pinaud Citrus Musk cologne/aftershave

While I've enjoyed trying out a brand new SE razor (the Rocnel) the past few days, it felt great to get back to the Rapide. Have to say that the Rapide delivers a closer shave than the Rocnel. This is not a knock against the Rocnel - the Rapide delivers a closer shave than just about any razor in my collection. :happy088:

    Simply a magnificent shave! :happy036:

    Keep forgetting to post here.
    Here was my

The Rocnel is a great razor, and I have found it to be exceptionally good at going ATG in usually difficult places such as the upper lip and chin and jaw line.
    Have a great day all!

    First Shave Results
    [IMG]

So my first straight shave went off without a hitch. Meaning no nicks or blood. A nice smooth cheek shave first pass only.

As this was my first shave with a straight. I went for the suggested cheeks only one pass making sure to stretch my skin. I found that the most difficult part was positioning my hand dos stretch my skin, and be able to see in the mirror where I was shaving. I am left handed so my right hand is pretty useless to shave with. Or so I thought. I was very surprised to find that was pretty natural feeling. The hardest part was judging the distance to my face with the blade. Right hand only.

I took light short strokes ad was pleased to see a mess of whiskers in the soap when I wiped the blade off. I found the angle easy to find and hear. I attribute this to me shaving with the Rapide for the last month. As this is a hollow ground blade on a stick.

So I consider this a Very good success. I will continue to practice with my straight once a week. Saturdays will be my day no hurries or worries that day. I will continue will still only shave with it on the first pass, that is until I get the whole face down. This has been an exciting shave. I am not sure if it will replace my SE shaves, but it will be great addition to my shaving.

    Burma Shave Saturday
Tonights shave didn't start out to good but ended great I need to learn more about honing and stropping my Gem Duridium blades. Half way through I switched to a new Gem blade and finished with DSS. I can't blame it on the razor being new even though I got it yesterday for six dollars at a flee market. I can't blame it on the new soap I got yesterday. Once I put a new blade in everything came around for a great finish. Tonights lineup.
    Razor- Gem Junior 1912.
Blade- Gem Duridium and switch to a new Gem.
Brush- NOS Burma Shave 100% Natural bristle.
    Burma Shave soap mug.
Lather- Artisan made shave soap by Kim Kelley's Boutique barbershop scent.
    Post- OSMA Alum block.
Aftershave- Genuine Ogallala Bay Rum Sage and Cedar. IMG_20160521_211815.jpg

Those Gems are great razors. I have several models and I get consistently great shaves from them. G bar, 1912, OCMM and Damaskeene! It takes some practice with VDH, but you can get a real nice lather out of that soap... and it's only $4 at Target!
