    Today's Shave: Monday August 8, 2016

    Leresche Le Francais French Hoe
Wedge blade of unknown origin (2nd shave since honing)
    The Grooming Co. synthetic brush
    Haslinger Schafmilch soap
    Brut aftershave

Yet another French hoe. Very little information available on this one, Waits acknowledges its existence and that's about it. Its design is typical of the genre, with a tab type spring holding the blade against blade stops and an open comb. It is solidly constructed and a smooth shaver. If there ever were any markings on the blade they have long ago been obliterated, but it honed up nicely. I enjoyed a most pleasant shave, a great way to start the week.

These are the only markings on the razor. Since "Le Francais" is simply French for "The French" finding any information on it was challenging, to say the least. Another oddity regarding these razors is that while the heads are usually nickel plated, the handles are often silver plated. This does not wear well so handles often appear to be simply brass, as seen above.

Is the chocolate (cocoa) scent pretty obvious?

I want to start to develop some competency with straights so I planned a two part shave today. The first pass with one of my grandpa's straights and the other two with a prized, but little used, Personna British Executive. Both parts ended up better than expected. :happy088:

The straight went well for a full face first pass. A nick or two but good reduction. Next time I'll add a little more water to the Haslinger's.

The Personna was like a dream. I forgot how incredibly smooth this razor is. Amazingly, the blade is well beyond what is normal for me and still produced a wonderful result. I am going to push it a bit to see how it is the next time I use this wonderful razor. You rarely see a Personna British Executive available but, should you be so lucky, grab it if you can. You won't be sorry. :happy036:

It is indeed a deep rabbit hole.

Shaving with these razors is just a completely different kind of shaving. It's a lot more work, what with honing and stropping the blade, stropping before & after each shave, and removing & drying the blade after shaving. However, the feeling you get after a perfect BBS shave using a blade you've prepared yourself is almost magical. :happy108:

It is a Deep Rabbit Hole Getting into these Type of SEs as Bob Said..Like SR Shaving the Best thing You can Do is Get a Blade Shave Ready & Learn to Shave with it and To Strop & Maintain it..That's It..Most of the Guys that get into Honing Like Myself & Others are Self Taught..There is a Whole New Vocabulary & Terminology to Pick Up Never Mind Anything Else..:D

All Folks Can Do here on the Forum is to Inspire Others to Take Up the Rabbit Hole..This Rabbit Hole is a Solo Journey & the Search Can be a Long & Tedious One..I Wish I had a Dollar for Everyone I heard Say that they Wanna Get into the Wedge Blade or SR Shaving Rabbit Hole..:)

Did I Say Wedge Blade ??..:happy097:

Unfortunately, no one can be told about wedge blade shaving - you must experience it for yourself.

Let me introduce to you my new PAL!

It's in very good shape, but I want to give it a good cleaning before I use it. I'm hoping to try it out on Wednesday.

Definitely heavier than the Schick and the handle is different, but It has a nice balance. After examining the blade guard to the E and G, I can see this being a bit more aggressive. This should be a fun little razor!

Interesting. I thought the Schick E types were the most aggressive of the "modern" injectors (i.e., those that followed the C and D types). I've tried several "aggressive" injectors, but only the Schick E2 gives me what I want. I might have to try the PAL...

BTW.....I don't know....But I'm thinking this Schick Simplified Automatic C3 might be my best shaving injector...
    Just saying....

    I mean....it's definitely the coolest.....but DAMN!!! It shaves it's @$$ off!!!

I've thought so before....but now in light of the fact, my shovelheaded lovelies have taken over the thrones in my shave cave.....The Bar Has Been Raised! and this C3 is one injector that can stand right up to the shovelheads...with Pride!

    Gem Damaskeene
    Stirling Unscented PSB

I had my first shave with this razor this morning, and it was great. This is a easy going razor. It felt very natural to me, and I am sporting a DFS after two passes.

    Blade: Chinese Schick
    Razor: Schick G1 injector
    Brush: Vulfix 2006C badger
    Lather: La Toja
Post: Witch hazel splash enhanced with Barbasol Pacific Rush, Nivea sensitive balm
    WTG, touch-up

Back to the Schick G1 after a couple of weeks with pass-around razors. Nice shave this morning. La Toja is a top-notch soap. I'm trying to finish off this little bit because I'm getting a shave stick in a trade. The Vulfix badger is a little scritchy scratchy but it worked well. Other than a couple of teeny tiny nicks I'm feeling pretty smooth.

Looking forward to trying the Schick H later this week. It will be on pass-around from @ob1page.

    Have a great day!
