I wouldn't have seen it normally but the sunlight hit it just so and there it was so I looked closer. Definitely need to redo it. Nice looking blade but it might be a piece of crap for all I know. I have something to practice with later.

My G Route 66 came in the mail today, and I couldn't have been more stoked! Other than the blade tab being missing, you could have told me it was NOS, and I would have believed you. Had an absolutely PERFECT shave with it tonight, and froze my face with one of Rod's Glacials. What more could a guy ask for?

    Have a peaceful Sunday, everyone.

    Today's Shave: Saturday October 15, 2016

    Razorock Hawk w/Feather AC Pro
Colonial Razors The General w/Kai Captain
    Alumigoose 2 w/Feather AC Pro
ATT SE1 (Jurgen Hempel handle) w/Kai Captain
    The Grooming Co. synthetic brush
    Stirling Bay Rum soap
    Turtle Bay Bay Rum aftershave

    I don't normally use 4 razors to shave. :signs002:

I didn't even plan on doing it today, but they all happened to be handy, and it just sort of happened. This is certainly not any sort of definitive comparison, as I wasn't even using the same blades. But I do have a few observations.

The razors are listed more or less in the order of aggressiveness, low to high, although the differences are not major. At first the Alumigoose seemed much more aggressive than the others, then I remembered that it was loaded with a Pro Super. I swapped it with a Pro and continued.

The Hawk, in addition to being the mildest, is also the smoothest, perhaps due to its light weight. The chrome plated finish may also be a factor.

Weights: Hawk: 1.4 oz, General: 1.6 oz, Goose: 1.8 oz, SE1: 2.9 oz.

The difference in weight is most apparent, naturally, with the SE1, which feels very solid in the hand. The Hawk feels like a toy but still gets the job done. Each one has its own personality.

I'm not about to declare a "winner" as all of these razors are excellent shavers.

Perhaps the most interesting thing is that with all this experimenting I still ended up with a really great irritation-free BBS shave! :happy088:

Marvelous shave with the Schick E2 this morning. Heavenly lather from the KMF shave cream. Three wonderful passes for a refreshing dolphin smooth finish. Have a great day friends. :)

    Hello gents,
although a newbie still, I love shaving with my E4 Schick injector and although I have a few DE's I mostly use the E4 and the X3 slant. I would like to explore the SE shaving experience, so I've decided to buy a few SE razors and I have my eyes open for the soon to be released El-Jefe and Hawk when it's available. These two will not brake the bank.
I saw the Asylum RX by Bullgoose and I fell in love with it. At $230 a shot though it's an expensive piece of equipment. Reviews elevate it as the best bar none. I put my mane down to be notified, but
please convince me I don't really need such an expensive SE, however perfect the shave or so good looking on the display.
If though it's also your opinion that it's by far the best, I don't know what I'll do.

If you want a great shave without breaking the bank, and a chance to further explore the SE world, keep your eyes out for a nice Ever-Ready 1914 or 1924. These are two top tier vintage SEs that will give you a really close enjoyable shave. :happy093:

    Here's a 1914:

    Here's a 1924 in brass:

    ...and here's a nickel plated 1924:

All I know, is that after spending hundreds at a pop on different razors chasing the perfect shave, my $12.00 E2 does the job just as well as any of them.

If you can afford it, and it's fun for you, by all means buy the Asylum. But I doubt you need to in order to get the perfect shave, and there is a lot of fun in hunting down these old beauties.

I managed 2 complete passes with about 90 percent coverage using my shavette. Had one small nick on my chin. Not bad. Cleaned up with the Schick. Enjoy your Sunday everyone!

    Today's Shave: Sunday OCtober 16, 2016

    Gem Damaskeene Open Comb
PAL Super carbon steel blade (4)
    The Grooming Co. synthetic brush
L'Occitane Cade soap & aftershave balm

Today I get back to OCtober after the distractions of a weekend getaway and a new razor (gotta try a new razor the morning after it arrives - can't help myself :ashamed001: ). The very first Damaskeenes were open comb like this one. Surprisingly, the shave is slightly milder than the closed comb versions that followed. It's a smooth shaver and a joy to use. I don't use it too often as the nickel plating is pristine and I'd like to keep it that way.

Have you yet tried the Super blade in the Hawk? I think swapping Pro and Super between the Hawk and General is on my to do list.

So far I've only used the Pros in the Hawk. They provide such a satisfying shave that I'm not in any real hurry to experiment - although eventually I certainly will.

I've found that the Pro Supers work well in the Alumigoose 2. However, in the ATT SE1 they just made the razor harsh and more likely to irritate or produce weepers without any significant improvement in the shave. YMMV.

Magnificent shave with the Schick N1 injector razor this morning loaded with a twin blade. Tabac shave stick is an excellent product providing incredibly protective and creamy lather, I can't recommend this shave stick enough. As an added bonus it seems to last forever. Three refreshing passes for a dolphin smooth finish. Have a great day friends. :)
