You got that right Leo K.
I think you have you one of them "Win Win" situations right there....Either way way you can't go wrong....I remember someone say the handle on the 'J's were like the fine detail paint brushes...and they gave you that kind of control, like when you're painting...Iradke said, like when you are painting a masterpiece shave.....lol

I'm so glad I got that E2 last weekend, it really mows my stubble down in just two passes with touch up. I didn't expect it to shave so smooth based on my first E2. I've been reaching for it each morning lately!

My first E2 is even more aggressive, but it bites more than I like. It's an E/G mix because the handle is plastic. If I master this it could be an excellent one pass razor for those days I'm running late :)

I'm going to have to start considering an injector type now because it is the only style I don't have yet.

    Time for INJECTOR SMACKDOWN! :bounce017:

To investigate your question, I brought these two fine machines to the race track today...

    Hydromagic (I2) image.jpg vs.
    Schick 500 (J4) image.jpg

Racing conditions: slick n' fatty (MWF)
    Left lane: I2 :kar:
    Right lane: J4 :kar:

...And we're off! Both injectors demonstrate:
    -easy maneuverability
    -grippy handles
-mild, unaggressive shaving (vs. early injectors)
    -Hydromagic lever for easy cleaning.
    -high performance. BBS w/o irritation.

    Differences:
-Handle shape. Angular (I2) vs Round (J4) Barrel
    -Length. I2 < J4
-Looks. If you go with the I2, expect to spend more time shaving because everytime you rinse the razor, you'll be tempted to stop & say "Damn, You're sexy!" **Let SWMBO know this ahead of time, or she'll think you're hitting on your reflection.**

Seriously close race. A photo finish, quite literally. Click the above pics to enlarge. You may have to decide on looks & availability, because I appreciate no difference in shave quality :D

Notes on the J-type: "Golden Schick" (J3) = cream or black handle + gold tone head. "Schick 500" (J4) = black handle + silver tone head. J1 & J2 do not have the Hydromagic lever.

Thanks for the write up ohpaos! The reason I asked was I had lost out on a couple of Golden 500s on the bay and so I bought an I-2...Sad thing is now it looks like it is lost in the mail :angry019: So I may not get to experience either one yet.

The Hydro will be on deck again in the morning, such a wonderful easy shavin' machine :)

I'm tempted to revisit my Injector, but I am discouraged because my I-type gave me very bad shaves. I do know that I have had a reaction with every platinum coated blade that I try.

Been shaving with a G-type Eversharp-Schick for the last few days. Using new Schick blades. I do two passes with it (WTG/XTG) then finish (ATG) with my E4 Fatboy set at "3" with a Bolzano Superinox blade. I'm having a lot of fun and getting great shaves. The G-type has a code of 98-50 on the red plastic/clear lid case. I'm thinking that the G-type is from 1950? Any guesses?

Bummer. What blades have you tried so far? I've seen several varieties of vintage Schicks, but I don't know the differences. May be one of the resident experts will have some vtg blade suggestions.

It will help to have pictures of the razor, with focus on the underside of the head & back of the handle. On the back of handle, is there a vertical seam in the plastic? I have a faux leather box for my G. Only the plastic cases have manufacturing code stamps.

Here are 2 pics of it. Please excuse it's condition - just used it. L1020669.JPG L1020671.JPG

That's a handsome Injector! Beautiful handle. Perhaps a G1 type by the looks of it. Some of those are just as aggressive as the E type.

If Big T's PIF arrives today I'll probably use that one, never shaved with G so I'm excited!

If it doesn't arrive today, I have my paintbrush on deck for tomorrow :)

One thing I'm noticing with Schicks is that I find myself shaving faster, but I'm trying to slow down :) they can still bite especially when I shave South to North on my neck and chin! Gotta watch the angle there :)

Thanks. I got it from Youngunn via a PIF for which I'm very thankful. Never tried an E type but this one is a nice aggressive razor. I'm getting a Schick Adjustable (M1) tomorrow. So we'll see how it compares to that.

Awesome! Let me know how they compare as I haven't used an M1.
